the fall 1999 / winter 2000 issue by the chicago crime commission is a ACTION ALERT.
It is all about how bad guns are. One of its sources of information is the VPC. I am going to "quote" some garbage here. If anyone can get the REAL figures-if they exist, please send them to me or better yet to info@chicagocrimecommission.org or go to www.chicagocrimecommission.org

From Jan 1, 1996 – Oct 9,1997 Texas concealed handgun license holders were arrested for 946 crimes, 263 being felony offenses.
In 1996 Texas concealed handgun license holders were arrested for nearly 2 crimes a day since the law went into effect.
Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for more than one serious violent crime per month including murder/attempted murder, kidnapping and rape or sexual assault since the law went into effect.
Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for one weapon-related offense every other day since the law went into effect.
Family violence was identified in more than one in 20 incidents involving concealed handgun license holders.
Texas concealed handgun license holders have been arrested for nearly 3 drunk driving offenses per week since the law went into effect.

We need to know all of the statistics for the whole state. The way the stats are being quoted, I would be welling to bet a case of Shiners that these numbers are not unusual when the whole picture is seen.

Anyone know were we can find the whole enchilada?

I would be willing to bet that the rates of the license holders are still WAY below normal people. Doesn't Texas have one of the largest numbers of CHL's, being so huge and conservative?

Let's get real. Compare those numbers to the numbers for the population at large without the CHL's, and I bet you'll see that the rate is much lower. One every other day? That would be a slow day for the rest of the state, unless the diff. between the numbers of "normals" and CHL's is huger than I thought.

Also wondering why Texas--special case, or fuzzier stats, or what? The VPC did this to Florida last year or the year before and got thrashed by the Florida department of something-or-other which pointed out the flaws in their methodology in a letter. I bet the same could be done here but I'd have to dig and find the info.

Here I thought you were going to tell us that there was a commission to study the activities at Chicago's city hall.

The Texas Department of Public Safety website concerning Suspensions and Revocations of CHLs is here:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/demographics.htm

Now, since the DPS Giveth and Taketh the CHL's, and since felonies get you an automatic yank of your CHL--what do we find:

Under Summary of Revoked Licneses by Zip Code--
From September 1, 1995 to February 2, 2000 there have been a Grand Total of:

962 Revoked CHLs.

From Summary of Active Licenses by Zip code we find:

206,423 currently active.

Hmm. Let's see--962 divided by five years...carry the 2...bring in the toes...less than 200 revocations per year...not even one a day.
