Chiappa Rifles.........

Has anybody here had first hand experience with any of the Chiappa Rifles?

I am really interested in this little guy http://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/829/spec in the .22 Hornet version, but have only handled a couple of their .22 caliber 1911's and a Rhino in the stores up to this point, and don't know anybody that has one of their longarms.

I am trying to find a local store that can get me pricing for one, and would love any info on performance, reliability, and if the purchase is regretted or not.

Chiappa rifles are fairly well made, but wood is only so-so. Their lever rifles are "reproductions" of Winchester rifles, i.e. they use US thread pitches, although I am not sure if they use Winchester thread pitches (which are different from anyone elses thread pitches). Their Winchester 1885 reproductions are pretty nice, one of the better ones available from Italy, but again, the wood is only so-so. Their full-sized Sharps are nice, too. I would say go for it, just realize you are buying a "reproduction" of a rifle that never existed, Baby Sharps are a 21st Century thing.

here,s my little sharps in 44-40 with scope and with out, the scope just didn,t work out(malcom 3x). its a nice rifle and it shoots very well with the tang sight(50 yrds offhand). eastbank.

Thanks for the info Scorch.

I do realize the Little sharps was never an actual production gun, but it just calls my name, and I like firearms that are a little different than what all the neighbors have.

After a little reasearch, it appears Chiappa was supplying Charles Daly with firearms, including the Little Sharps, which provides a little more feed back to go on.

Now the only issue is coming up with the money.........it may bit little, but it aint cheap.

Chiappa 92 action

Bought one of these in .44 magnum a little while back. I would have had a Rossi, but they are only available in stainless over here, which I didn't want, and anyway are not much cheaper.
So far, very pleased with it. I have put 120 or so rounds through it and it did very well at 25 and 50 yards. The last 10 rounds were at a Huns head target at Bisley at 200 yards. This was 5, 5 second exposures shot from the kneeling and I came close but no cigar. It was great fun trying though.
I am finding the sights a little tricky, mainly because I am fifty one and need reading glasses. I may have to go through the shame of bifocals.
Handling is good. Ten shot magazine, the loading gate is a bit fiddly, but I have learned to not have a handful of cartridges in the loading hand. Using the second cartridge to push the first all the way in works well.
The handling is very slick, loading and ejection very smooth and fast. it looks good and I prefer it to the '94 action. Some one on this forum told me to keep it well lubed and run it like I stole it. Which seems to be working.
All in all very pleased. Not the cheapest, but worth it to me.

'92 Cimarron - Made by Chiappa

I have a '92 Cimarron that was made by Chiappa.
It cost me much more than I would have spent on a Rossi but IMO, it was worth it. The Chiappa is a Winchester reproduction, the Rossi is not. The Chiappa doesn't have the safety that a lot of folks don't seem to care for, while the Rossi does. Almost everybody I know that has bought a Rossi ends up sending it to "Steve's Gunz" for a tune-up and to get the action slicked up. The Chiappa action is smooth as butta right out of the box. And last but not least, the fit, finish, and overall quality of the Chiappa is by far the nicest I've seen in any Winchester reproduction.

Having said that, I believe Rossi has since partnered with Chiappa or visa versa. There is some sort of business relationship now, though I'm not really sure of specifics.

Parisite.
We are an endangered species here. A chap I work with lived for two years in Phoenix and says very firmly that because of the concealed carry laws in Arizona he felt safer there than he does now in England.
I hope the land of the free stays that way.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

From what I had seen, they looked to be a decent firearms, but i have never had my hands on one of thier rifles, just the pistols.
