Chiappa MC 14?

Any experience with this?

It's a SA/DA .380. I've heard Chiappa is hit or miss on their quality/reliability from what I've seen online.

I can't find any info on this one and their specs page doesn't give a lot of info.

The wifey wanted a .380 so we went looking. Was not expecting to see this one there. I think it's fairly new and there's only one serious review I could find online (was positive).

She needs a full grip so that narrowed down the options but she really liked this Chiappa. I must admit it felt great in the hands.

Haven't got to shoot it but we put it on layaway at a very good price. Lower than what Buds wants.

Anyway I just wanted to see if anyone has one of these or any opinions on this. I think it's a Beretta 84 copy of some sorts.

Yeah, almost regret putting money down on it. Was impulse.

It did feel really solid but I don't want her having a pos.

I'd let others clear a path through the minefield of a new model gun, and stick with a proven design.

Consider a polsurp Beretta 84 or CZ 83. Affordable, compact, yet they provide a full grip (swap out the stock mag base plate for a polymer or rubber one if you need a bit more). Easton Firearms Refinishing can make them look better than new:

It doesn't look much like an 84 cosmetically, although it superficially appears to have a similar takedown mechanism (press button on left, rotate lever on right 90° CCW) and a similar slide stop shape.

Of course, it's possible that Chiappa restyled it to avert the ire of Beretta's lawyers.

That said, Chiappa literature claims that the MC 14 is a short-recoil locked-breech design, which is NOT the case with the unlocked-breech blowback 84. However, there's apparently some dispute on the Interwebz as to whether Chiappa's claim is accurate.

Maddnotez—perhaps you can help. :) Does the Chiappa barrel move when the slide is racked – i.e. move back and tilt, move back and stop, or rotate?

[EDIT TO ADD] The Chiappa appears to have a dovetailed front sight, which is a potential plus over the integral front sight of the 84, under the assumption that some aftermarket actually materializes for the Chiappa...

Greetings, I have a new Chiappa mc 14, and am still amazed at the fit, finish, hammer forged hard chromed barrel, and overall upscale quality of this pistol. It is produced by Girsan Arms, in Turkey(girsan. tr. en), who also produce upscale shotguns, as well as many other handguns.
At the range I was again amazed, as were others with it's accuracy firing cheap aluminum cased Blazer ammo! I attribute this accuracy to tight tolerances, trigger pull, and ergonomics engineered into it. If you think I'm gushing over this gun I definately am! I've owned many firearms over the years, however this one is special!
When you recieve yours, it will be dry, so make sure you properly lube it before use. You will be amazed at the NO play slide to frame fit. No it's not a full blowback, as it has a seperate ramped barrel underlug, and very little recoil.
If you haven't ordered one yet, search for a Girsan mc 14, which is the same pistol. Zenith Firearms is the importer, and you can order from them as well. I'm certain you will be enamored with this pistol, as I am.
Regards
Carl
