Checkering tools?

I recently re-finished my CZ 452 full stock .22 rifle. The new finish is exactly what I wanted, except that I got too much finish material in the checkering. I want to get the tools needed to remove or cut away the finish in the checkering. I have never done this before, so I went to the Midway website & marvelled at the wide range of checkering tools available. I do know that the rifle has 18 lines per inch checkering.
Can any of you wizards out there suggest what tools are appropriate for what I am planning to do (in consideration of my level of experience)

For cleaning up the existing checkering, just buy two "V" tools and handles. Set the cutter in one to cut on the push stroke and the second to cut on the pull stroke. Simply run the cutters in the existing lines until you cut the finish out. Thin some of your finish about 50-50 with mineral spirits, and very lightly brush it over the newly cut checkering. You can repeat this if it does not cover to your satisfaction, but don't try to build it up like a regular stock finish. I like Dembart cutters, but others prefer Gunline. It honestly won't matter.
