Grrrr

"Let us hope that the ordinance does not become a trend. It's eccentric, unnecessary and, if anything, is likely to attract a certain element of people that Virgin probably doesn't want."

Oh, me thinks this will likely attract those less criminally inclined. And if it does attract those inclined to act less than honorably, may the residents of Virgin, U. aim small, miss small.

By now, I've seen enough of this kind of stuff that I have zero interest in moving to Denver or anywhere in CO. The dominant political climate seems to be pretty anti-self defense. No thank you.

Regarding the story about Virgin,Utah, I would oppose that law. Not because I am anti-gun, but because the government REQUIRES people to own guns. People should be free to choose whether or not they wish to own guns and if they want to own them, they should not face ridiculous regulations and requirements. However, if they would rather not own guns, I don't believe they should be forced to do so. If we support such laws, we're no better than the liberal anti-gunners we oppose. This is after all about FREEDOM,is it not?

Not the first community...

Kennesaw, Georgia has a similar ordinance. While I don't agree with requiring anyone to own a gun, I guess they can justify it as a public safety issue, kind of like requiring sprinklers, fire extinguishers, or first aid kits. It worked/works for Kennesaw. Despite being a growing city within 25 miles of one of the two most violent cities in the US, their violent crime rate is LOW - the number of crimes hasn't increased significantly despite the population of Kennesaw doubling. They have some of the best public schools in metro Atlanta, too. And some good shopping (malls, etc.) - I like shopping there because I've always felt safe, whatever the time.

Oh yeah - Kennesaw has no intention of enforcing the law, either. I think there's a whopping $25 fine for breaking it, but I've never even heard of anyone being charged. It was more of a pro-gun, anti-criminal kind of "don't mess with us" statement.

Scare word

"Scary." This law in Utah is "a bit scary". How many times did we hear that the idea of Bush as President is "scary".

Watch how often this word is turning up lately and in what contexts. Its linguistic opposite seems to be "safe", as in "Be safe", "Have a safe day," "Safe storage", etc.

For the Soccer Mom crowd, the world can be divided into the SAFE and the SCARY, and everything they don't like or understand is "scary".

If you go out to the MMM page, those mental giants have Virgin, Utah, in their 'Timeout Chair'. Perhaps the author is a card carrying member...

I think the menatl midgets writing the commentaries are truly scared of the fact that criminals will now leave Virgin and come to roost in their utopian towns. Let me think; I can rape someone who is be law required to have a gun or I can rape someone who is by required to NOT have a gun. Hummmmm... Doesnt take much grey matter to figure that one out.

Dont really like the idea of being required to do something by the governemnt, but in both towns there are exeptions and no mandate to enforce them.

i wouldn't wipe my ass with either of denver's rag's (but i guess it is pc to have a liberal up your ass)
co for the most part is not anti-self defense. in fact a fair amount of counties DO issue ccw's, without a "need to show cause" reason.
i still do not know how amend 22 passed?
but you do have instacheck (when they are not "down")
why not come on out for a week/ wkend and be my guest for gun store hopping and some range time.
like any other state, except for kali,ny,nj and those other BLUE ZONES most states cannot be judged by the few idiots who moved from their home state to make a better life, and then screw it up like the place they just left!!

Byron, I see this line of "reasoning" popping up all over, and it scares me!
It reminds me of a five-year-old child babbling...
