Check My Load

I have been loading pistols (45s, 40s, 9mm and 38/357s) for about 4 years. This is my first attempt at loading for rifles. I Loaded 10 30-30 Winchester rounds with 30-30 coated 165gr Missouri Bullets, installed a gas check and put in 29.1gr of Hodgdon BL-C 2. The case is a R.P. with Winchester LRP No. 200. OAL IS 2.506 and the rifle is a Marlin 336 with a 22 inch barrel. My question is is this a workable load?

My Lyman 49th Edition and 2nd Edition Richard Lee manuel do not have a 165gr lead bullet listed. The Lyman manuel gives a 170gr Jacketed FP with BL-C 2 starting load at 32.0gr and max load at 35.8gr. The Hodgdon Reloading site list a 170gr SIE FP with BL-C 2 at 32.5gr starting load and 36.0gr max load. I went with 29.1gr to try to be a little safer.

Stop what you're doing.....you need to work a load up from min to max. Normally done 3 rounds at each charge in .5gr increments.

Lyman does have lead data, but you may have to use the 170gr lead data. Use it before you use jacketed data.

I use IMR 4227 with my MBC 165g coated bullets, from the Lyman Cast Bullet Data Handbook(can be found at Sportsmans Warehouse)

I started at the suggested start load and I worked up to max. I found the sweet spot to be at 17.7g with a 1600fps velocity. I can't remember my COAL, have to look that up for you.

I don't recall seeing BLC-2 listed in that data. Not saying it won't work though.

My biggest issue with this bullet is seating it without loosing coating, and if I flare the case mouth even a little, my crimps are hit or miss. Still developing.........

I can't find any data using that powder with lead bullets.

Trying picking another powder for lead bullets. I use IMR 4198 in my .30-30 with 160gr and 170gr lead boolits.

28.0 grains of BLC 2 was max charge for a 150 gr bullet from castpics

Winchester doesn't make a #200 primer.
