Today I had an interesting brakeage in my HK
P7M8. As I was firing the gun ay the range,
after about 30 rounds the slide failed to go to battery. Up on field striping and examination I found that a small piece of metal was lodged between the breach and the chamber mouth. The piece was about 1x2 mm in size and looked like it broke of something.
When I returned home I disasembled the pistol completely and thouroghly examined its parts under the stereo microscope. I found that the small piece that was jaming the gun had broken of from the drop safety catch in the slide. The pistol continued to function as designed i.e. fire the round, eject and chamber new one. The only feature that is possibly empaired is fireing pin block that prevents gun from firing if droped. I am going to contact HK and find out whether they will send me the part, which is very easy to replace or if I have to send them the gun.
In any case, if you have a P7 system pistol, please check your drop safety catch. If the piece that have broken of woulod not jam the action, I would have never noticed the malfunction, because it does not emaire the pistol firing ability in any way!

Oktagon,

Have you ever shot lead through your H&K?
Someone wrote elsewhere that they have done so w/cast wheelweights w/out problems. They are able to clean out the minor leading w/an apropriate sized drill bit twisted w/fingers in the gas tube. I know the co. says this is a NO-NO, but have you given it a try, and what came of it? I'd like to get a gas delayed blowback system by another manufacturer, but would realy like to use my own hard cast.

Equalizer,

I NEVER shoot lead through any of my firearms
(exept fpr the .22rf).
The breackage of drop safety catch is stress related. Its a small piece of stampt metal that gets pounded every time the slide cycles.
