Cheaper Than Dirt Handgun Purchases

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing firearms through cheaper than dirt? Prices seem pretty good with $8 shipping to FFL.

No, not yet anyway. When I do, my first purchase will be an XDM 9 3.8 and the LCR .357 w/Crimson Trace! I have purchased ammo, holsters, etc. from them and I couldn't be happier.

I ordered a .327 mag charter arms from them but I live 15 mi from their new McKinney TX store so no ffl I just drove to store and picked it up. they are great.

I've had the same experience as coop. I've ordered 3 guns from them and they were great. Also picked up at the McKinney store.

...just make sure you shop their prices. Some of their stuff is not 'cheaper than dirt,' if you see what I mean.

I live 10 minutes from their McKinney store (like everyone else here, it seems...) and they have 3 walls (above the pistol cases) covered with AR's, they must have 200-300 on display. Pretty nutty.

I never bought a firearm from them, although I was going to purchase some 1911 mags from them today and the shipping was crazy! Shipping alone for 3-8 round magazines to Missouri was over 25 bucks. Almost as much as the subtotal.

Garry, their shipping is VERY high... I don't see why either. They could ship their stuff at less than half the price that they do.

Never bought a firearm from them, though you can look at their reviews and people buy from them.

I have bought different items from them, they are good.

I used to shop there for on line ammo, but their shipping rates killed that. If the shipping on handguns truly is $8, it might be worth checking them out.

Cheaper Than Dirt

Several years ago, someone at Cheeper Than Dirt compromised our credit card. They tried to buy a Dell Computer with our credit card.

Shipping killed the deal

I had a cart full of gear at CTD....till I got to the shipping cost. It was $30-$40! Thank you.. No.
I went over to Opticsplanet.com and got the exact same stuff, same price for a fraction of the shipping cost.

I think that's where CTD is trying to make their money.

i only dealt with CTD once. they sent the wrong item twice. they refunded my money so i can't complain too much, but i don't see ever buying anything form them again. especially considering their prices are often more expensive than dirt, or they usually don't have what i want.

based on my personal experience with them, there's no way i would buy a gun from them.

I was not aware they sell firearms! VERY NICE. Learn something new every day. If Sportsmansguide ever does the same, I'll probably be bankrupt within 2 years!

Their prices appear to be competitive with gunbroker auctions and you know you are dealing with a respectable entity instead of some possible random deadbeat hiding behind a screen name. That's worth something to me. And of course no taxes on items if the company is based in another state is literally worth something to me. :D

It's very nice to see the entire CZ lineup spread out in one place. Seems the local gunstores seriously under represent CZ in my experience.

I think shipping is going one of two ways ..

There are tons of companies now offering free shipping as an enticement to shop with them, given the economy ... and there are others who are offering lower product prices and making it up on shipping and "handling," as with some who make you pay that charge twice for tossing a second identical item in the same box ...

for non-firearm related purchases, I try to shop with folks like Amazon, who offer free shipping for orders over $25 -- and no sales tax here in Texas at the moment ... for ammo, I buy from folks like ammoman, which offers free shipping, or drive to a big-box like Walmart ... for guns, I watch for sales, usually at Cabela's ... it's a tough world out there now, both for shoppers and sellers ...

thanks for all the comments....these post are interesting...seems they have a reputation of high shipping charges on assesories but list very low shipping on firearms.....i wonder if there is a catch once a firearm is purchased
