Cheap X-bow

Really surprised at prices I am seeing for cross-bows.
I need a "Harbor Freight" one. Just to expand my hunting options.

May dispatch skunks, possums, and other varmints along with deer.

Check online. Last year I bought a Horton Vision for about 2/3s of the prices from traditional sources.

If you can find a Horton Vision or Fury, or one of the Scorpyd line that inspired them, the rear limb design is incredibly well-balanced. It'll make you hate every other crossbow.

I don't know your budget. The Scorpyd line is very, very expensive new so it's probably not realistic but you can probably find a used Vision for a decent price.

I just bought a carbon express covert sls msrp is $599 it is very accurate the trigger isn't the best but for the money a very good crossbow.

Excalibur Axiom. Just got one online for $430 delivered. Complete package with scope, arrows, field tips, quiver and cocking string. Only broad heads are needed. 1 inch groups at 30 yards fist day using. And best of all, lifetime guarantee with great customer support. $430 may seem expensive at first, but for what you get, it is a steal.

This is more what I am thinking:

Recurve is out.
I will have three gun seasons to take crazy shots if my freezer is empty. I'd say 5" in 25 yards will be fine. Think of it as a farmers cross bow. It really just needs to get the job done at minimal price.

If I like it I can use the cheap one as a lender and buy something really nice later.

If you could find one, a Horton 'Hunter' is a decent crossbow. You could probably find a good used one very reasonable.

Spartan was the entry level Xbow for the Parker line up a couple years ago. Sometimes you'll find them NIB on eBay for $300.

PSE Viper and Copperhead are good Xbows for the money.

My wife ordered this http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/eagle-vi-150-pound-compound-crossbow.aspx?p=WX2&i=161162 for Christmas last year. I ended up getting a scope and mounts because the pin setup was useless. Other than that it is a very accurate and shootable xbow. I got some 22" bolts and 125 grain broadheads to help quiet it a little. It comes with real light aluminum arrows and is seriously loud with those. I took a small buck with it a few weeks ago so I can vouch that it will get the job done.

It is appears to be clone of the PSE copperhead. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/pse-copperhead-ts-crossbow.aspx?a=979248 That comes with a scope and costs about the same as I had tied up in mine all together. So I think that would be a good deal.
