Cheap shells for trap shooting

Its usually good to buy in bulk, here are some ok prices. They will get you for about 30 bucks on shipping though, as its a heavy box to ship.

You might not want to buy in bulk at first, find something that functions well in your shotgun, then go for the big order.

Unless you buy in bulk, buying the promo packs from wally world for more like $22/100 is the cheapest you will find.

Unless you reload, those will work just fine
 
There was a thread recently where a shooter had a BPS pump / that was jamming with the cheap wally world shells .... they were just a hair out of round at the base, he thought .....

The 2 cheapest brands around here are Rio's and Estate ...both around $ 5 for a box of 25 shells which is very competitive. Most any gun club / or gun oriented sporting good store will have Estate or Rio shells - at least in 12ga / maybe in 20ga ( same price usually ).
 
I toss in another vote for Walmart. You can get 300 rounds for $66. Thats pretty hard to beat. Yes Midway has the same shells for $61, but shipping will kill you.

Yeah, the shipping really takes away the economical factor.

At the Walmarts here, most ammo is in the locked case. However, for some reason, they don't see the need to lockup the bulk shotgun shells. You can just take them off the shelf and go through the regular checkout line.
 
Federal Top Gun or Federal Field&Range are good value-priced shells. Up here in NE Ohio, I will sometimes go to a place of I-71 called Fin Feather Fur Outfitters. Many times, they have 10box (250rnd) cases of Top Guns on sale for $47 and Field&Range cases for $43. That works out to less than Walmart's pricing.

If you bring a printed ad into our Walmart they will match the price as long as it is the same item. I have used several ads that I have recieved in the mail and they match the price without question.
 
There's another consideration when buying cheap/bulk/promotional shot-shells, apart from inferior components: are the hulls suitable for reloading? If you plan to eventually reload, then think about the value of the hulls. MidwayUSA wants $10/100 for Win AA or $11/100 for Rem STS hulls. So, shouldn't the cheap/bulk/promotional loads be at least $2.50 a box less than the reloadable premium target shells? Turners, a SoCal chain, has AAs for $6/box (after mail-in rebate [10 box min, 50 box max]) -- are cheap/bulk/promotional shells available for $3.50/box?
 
I've bought and fired 1000's of the inexpensive Remington Gun Club shells from WalMart in 12 gauge and 20 gauge. I've not had a single problem and they are excellent for reload. Reload info for GunClub shells is included on the Hodgdon reloading chart.

Excellent product. I've also had no problems with the Federal and Winchester shells from there. I just prefer the Remington Gun Club.
 
I have never seen Gun Clubs at the w.w. around here - they do carry a Remington promo load, and the hulls are just as reloadable, but they weren't the GC's.............

Currently, I'll take any of the Remington hulls over any of the Winchester, even the vaunted "AA" - too much inconsistency with lengths and quality

The OP asked about cheap ammo. IMHO, there's a dividing line between cheap and inexpensive. Open up the shells and have a look at the components, the differences may surprise you. The Rem Gun Club is on the inexpensive side of the line -- it shares load data with Rem's STS hulls.

Some of the cheap ammo doesn't even show up in the popular reloading guides. Sure, most hulls can be stuffed with components and the crimp sort of holds, but they may split and/or the base wad is gone after a firing or two. What I consider a reloadable hull is one that I'd comfortably use, after several reloads, in place of a factory load on the sporting grounds or in the field. To get an indicator of the quality of a hull, look at its once fired price.

As Donaldjr noted, sometimes local shops have better prices than on line, and you get the benefit of advice, service and not paying the Hazmat shipping fees. I found a great shop not far from my new duty station: Heritage Gun and Coin in W. Warwick, RI, where they are cheaper than on line for both ammo and reloading supplies, and go the extra mile to make sure I got what I wanted, a pleasant surprise to this Midwestern boy who found that although I can pack heat in Iraq for my country I could NOT buy ammo or reloading supplies at Bass Pro in Massachusetts (I am stationed in RI). So I spent about $200 bucks on ammo and reloading supplies with these guys! Anyway, we ought to support shops like that because the more FFLs and reloading supply shops out there the better for all of us (especially in New England-might change a couple of minds!).
Oh, I would also recommend no matter what you get, reloads, cheap, inexpensive, or high dollar ammo, you pattern it to make sure it works well in your gun.
 
The Remington Sport Loads at Wally World have the same hull as the Gun Club. Ive reloaded a bunch of them with no problems.
 
i got 100 rounds of federal at walmart for around 20 dollars. i think it was 7.5 shot. about the best deal you are going to get for a decent shell IMHO.
