I got lots of customers that have fireproof safes that hate the cost of dissadent packs. I found a place that sells good ones cheap. Mid Amaerica Motorworks. They are a Corvette parts and resoration compant on Illinois. These are made for using in the car for storage. They come in a 4 pack and are 2.5 pounds eack. And they are rechargable in the over or in sunlight on a hot day. They will absorb and swell and are dryed in the oven on 200 degrees for six hours. Cost is 40 bucks. If they will protct a 50 grand vette they will protect guns.

As an alternative to the dry packs, I put 24ft of rope light inside my safe. The guy who delivered the safe made the recommendation. You string it up around the inside and put it on a 3 hr on/off cycle and it keeps the inside warm enough that the moisture doesnt condense. I put a dry back in, just to monitor the moisture, and for a month now the dry back is still showing, well dry.

I bought the rope light on-line, coupled with the timer it came to about $40. No having to replace/dry out the dessicant, plus you get a nice light inside the safe.

Just a thought.

I've been buying the closet desiccant packs from Walmart for 3.97 each. It's been a pretty humid summer but the packs have remained active for at least a couple months minimum.
