Cheap .45 Battle: Hi Point vs Kahr CT45

The Hi Point and Kahr CT45 are the least expensive .45 pistols available brand new. The .45 Hi Point is usually under $200 and the Kahr sells a bit over $300.

Between the two, which do you like more?

I'd go with the Kahr all day long.

Although I have admittedly no direct experience with either, my experience with a PM9 would lead me to expect more from the Kahr.

I know one person with Hi Point 45. If you load a full magazine it will jam on the first round every time, so it has to be downloaded a round or two. Also, it looks and feels like holding a brick. Definitely go Kahr.

I want to be the contrarian here. I don't own either as I don't buy price point pistols (though I did with a rifle lately and was pleasantly surprised).

Has anyone ever heard anything but good about Hi-Point customer service? Hi-point has always been the "economy" brand. It is in their heritage. I still remember Kahr from when it was the challenger du jour to Glock so to hear it be compared, even favorably, to Hi-point kind of tells me how it has fallen.

And $100+ when you are comparing a sub $200 gun to a "just over $300" gun is a MAJOR difference

A nearby LE Distributor just had a big sale on confiscated handguns. There were over 450 lots.

I went over the first day of the sale and scored an inexpensive imported German revolver in .38 Special.

They had a huge box of Glocks and a huge box of Sig Sauer P226. I don't think they were confiscated but rather former LE pistols.

There were three huge boxes of Hi-Points. I went back yesterday to see what was left. All the Glocks and Sigs were gone. There was two boxes of the Hi-Points left. They ranged in price from $39.00 to $59.00. So, I gather the Hi-Points are the preference of the folks who have guns confiscated.

I wouldn't pay $15 for either of those guns. Even if I walked into the store with $15 in my pocket and nothing else to do that day. I'm not exaggerating.

Another vote for the M&P. Find a used one or something.

If your buying it for an opponent in a duel, go with the Hi Point and a stuffed magazine
If it’s for you for self defense, look at Buds deals on police returns.
Just note this when buying cheap guns: You’ll spend more money on ammo and headaches than the gun.

Just stop. Turn the question around... compare the Glock against the HiPoint... what do you get? The Kahr is a niche pistol with a narrower use than the Glock. When you think of a concealment pistol the HiPoint is completely out of the equation unless you are just being contrary. I do agree with you on the price point, however, particularly at the budget level.

Kahr makes very good pistols... I have 4 of them and carry one or the other every day. I don't own a Glock... or a HiPoint.

If I saw a $50 high point I would happily buy it.

I'm not intimately familiar with Kahrs lineup but isn't the CT45 primarily a CCW? If so my answer would be the Kahr for concealed carry. If we're not talking about carrying then I'd buy either for the right price.

I would have to agree. And this is an apples/oranges comparison. One can clearly be suited as a carry pistol, one cannot. Kahr makes fine firearms. I have several thousand trouble free rounds (1, yes just 1, hiccup in the first 3 mags during break in; otherwise flawless) through a cw9 that I carry for plain clothes duty nearly every day.

Kahr and Hi-point are in two separate leagues.

The CT is Kahr's full size polymer pistol line. Still single stack and DAO tho.
