cheap 410 shells?

Dunb question, right?

Anyone know where I can find reasonably priced 410 shells? or a reasonably priced brand?

got my first 410 last week and was hit with a little sticker shock at the price of shells compared to the cheap 12 ga. winchester shells I can get at walmart.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why are they so much?
 
They're more expensive because they're loaded less than 12 ga. Just like .22 shorts used to be cheaper when they were made in higher quantities.
 
You might find some Estate target shells at local skeet clubs or sporting clay ranges, maybe at a Gander Mountain or Cabelas store. Any heavier loads will still be expensive. I have shot upwards of 1000 .410's in the last couple months, good thing I reload. :D If I want a load with heavier shot I make it myself, although I can't reload 3" shells with my reloader. :rolleyes:
 
If your going to shoot your 410 much you may want to consider reloading the little buggers.Reloading is fun and you will save money in the long run.
 
If you plan on shooting it more that a box a week, it's likey worth relaoding. ( Find a used MEC JR press for $40 or so.)
Otherwise, consider going/ trading to a 20 or 12 ga. It will payfor itself in ammo savings alone.
 
There is no such thing as a "cheap" .410 or a 28 guage for that matter. If you look at the .410 hunting loads you will think they use gold plated shot in them. As suggested, if you are going to shoot a .410 a lot consider reloading. Find a used MEC and even if you deceide to no longer reload, chances are you can sell the loader for about what you paid for it. It also gives you some flexability in what your loads are. You won't have to reload many boxes of shells to pay for the press. Good Luck
 
20 gauge- I'm trying that out soon.

The only other shotgun I ever shot was an old bolt action mossberg 12 ga. I sold it a while back.

I was thinking of getting my sons something to go small game hunting with me, maybe next year. During a trip to walmart, on an impulse, I picked up a single shot NEF 410, and although it seemed close to fitting for my oldest son it was way too big for my younger son. So I figured I'd get a youth model, or two.

I took the 410 out to the range and that's a fun little gun to shoot. I think I like it too much to give it up.

Anyway I just had a little buying spree on gunbroker and picked up 2 youth 20 gauges and 2 single shot 12's. I don't know why I got both of the 12's.Those single shots hardly cost anything.

20 ga. will kick a bit more. I'll try it out and if I think the kids won't like it, maybe I'll get them fitted for 410 barrels.
 
Cheap 410 shells

No such animal as cheap. Even walrusworld charges around $6 per box on plain field loads. Reload is your cheapest option.
