Id like to buy a cheap 357 mag with atleast a 6in barrel only for hunting so I dont wanna go buy some pricey new one a cheap one would do me just fine could anyone suggest one or anyone have one
used ruger gp100 6" barrel would be perfect for you, my grandpa has the 3in barrel version and it will take all the 357s you can afford and then some. you could probably find a good used one for $300-$400
Buy a used Blackhawk. I remember seeing an individual selling one that needed a new bluing job for $285. If I didn't already have a GP100 I'd have bought it.
Saw this one go recently, he was asking $325, which I consider pretty cheap for a gun.
Go cruise the used gun racks at your local stores. Anything from Smith & Wesson or Ruger should do what you want to do. I've been seeing SW Mod 28s recently and those make great hunting handguns. I've got mine, or I would have been tempted.
Go for the Black Hawk. Single action will be fine for hunting, and adjustable sights will help you zero it with your chosen ammo. Even the new ones are reasonably priced, considering the level of strength and practicality that you get.
Ruger GP100 or Blackhawk. You just need to determine whether you want SA or DA. High quality gun, great CS. You could buy a cheaper gun but the drop in quality is just not worth the money you save.
Get a Blackhawk, great prices right now on new ones, save a little on a used one if you can find one, very accurate, will last you the rest of your life with a little care, very well designed and put together. If you want to spend just a little more, get a smith & wesson. If you were to start looking in pawn shops for a good magnum to hunt with, you will probally not find many blackhawks or smith & wessons. There is a reason for that. People get a one they like, they don't usually trade em or pawn em. Also most pawn shop owners have nice blackhawks or smiths sold before they buy them....
I would vote for the Blackhawk 357 with the 6.5 barrel. But I am going to suggest a sleeper. How about a Ruger Security Six 6 inch. You could probably find one for around $375. Very well balanced and they are accurate providing the shooter does their job.
Good luck,
Howard
^^^This. Cheap revolvers generally have bad triggers, poor sights and are not extremely accurate. For hunting with a .357 revolver the three most important aspects one needs is a good trigger, good sights and good accuracy. Just sayin'.
Many folks consider hangin' a handgun on their hip while carrying a long gun as "handgun hunting". The revolver/pistol is basically a back-up, for other game that is not the primary quarry or for the occasional coup de gras. This is where one can get by with a "cheap" revolver. If one is really serious about handgun hunting, they should invest in a firearm that will serve them well and not lead to frustration and wounded game. One does not need to buy the most expensive Custom/Performance Center firearm, but they should get the best quality they can afford, not only for the satisfaction of the hunt but outta respect for their quarry.
