Cheap 30.06 for new Savage

I just became the owner of a new Savage 110FXP3 in 30.06. (The one at Wally World with the scope, sling, etc. for $299) Anyway I am looking for cheap, military surplus ammo. I would like to avoid buying more than 300-400 rds. After browsing through countless websites I can't seem to come up with anything. Also, as long as it is non-corrosive, does using military ammo require any extra care or cause more gun damage than factory commercial ammo? Thanks a lot.

Hey faftml, welcome to TFL. Had a left-handed Savage about a year ago. What a nice rifle at a GREAT price.
I wouldn't worry about surplus ammo in a bolt-action rifle. The action itself should be plenty strong enough to handle any "hot" ammo you might get.

Miwall has remanufactured "Talon" M-2 Ball for your .30-06 for about $100 per 400. Comes in a .50 cal ammo can. Lake City brass, noncorrosive & reloadable. Much of it is "steel core," but it's a mild steel that shouldn't cause significantly more barrel wear than non-steel core.
