Charter?

The current Revolvers are fine, ALL of them, I currently own 4.
2-.44 Bulldogs
1-.44 "Boomer" ( wish it was't magna ported)
1-Circa 72 .38 Undercover.
Go to Youtube and watch Mixup98 take on the Bulldog .44 Charter Arms. He has a hiccup and sends it back. After that he Loved it.
PS I have never had the problem he encountered

Every one here is going to have their own opinion on Charter guns. Me? I only own one. I like my .44 Special Bulldog for it's purpose of concealed carry and as house gun. But not to be shot a lot. I have other .44 Specials for range/field that do the heavy lifting.

As above said, search the net/forums and form your own opinion. Nothing wrong with getting one and seeing for yourself either :) .

Have three now, had four. Most of mine are older 70’s and 80’s.No problems with any of them. Don’t have a new model, but I do like their stainless Bulldog

Do yourself a favor

Test fire the .44 Bulldog before you buy it. For a gun that feels so good in the hand it feels like catching a hardball bare handed under recoil. YMMV.

When I bought my 44 Bulldog in 1976, it came with wood grips and yes, recoil was sharp. The first year I had it I split open the cylinder with a hot hand load probably more suited for an N frame. Sent it back to Charter and when it returned it had a new cylinder and new rubber grips. I would say the DA pull was also smoother, lighter. The rubber grip makes them far more pleasant to shoot, certainly easier than a 357 magnum snubbie.
I still have the revolver and it always travels with us. I’ve probably used it more for CC than any other piece I have. Second choice is a S&W Shield 9mm.

I've found the Charter Arms reputation of shooting itself loose still holds. The ejector road unscrewed itself today just enough for the cylinder to almost close, but not all the way so the gun was bound up. I managed to open the cylinder and hand tighten the ejector rod. it will get a dab of blue lock tight soon.

I have had 1 Bridgeport, 3 Stratford and 4 Shelton plant guns. I think the 1st generation guns (Bridgeport & Stratford plants) are much better than the current Sheldon guns. I love the customer service there, but they had to replace one of my modern 38's, repair the replacement and swap a barrel and do other work to a new gun.

I only have a 3" Undercover made in 1986 now.
