Charter Arms Pathfinder - cylinder issue

The local shop has an older Pathfinder for sale. Lock up seems good, timing is good, but when I open the cylinder it moves about halfway out and drags a bit. Kind of like it hits a hump or drags- the cylinder has a slightly different finish from the rest of the gun, maybe powder or dura coated so I am thinking it may be a replacement?

Just curious as to what might be causing the dragging effect and if it would be difficult to correct?

Sale price is at $219

Thank you

The newer Pathfinders have a screw in the nose of the crane. IF the old ones are the same, simply loosening the screw could ease things up. They also have 2 nylon shims between the crane, and the frame. Removing, or lightly thinning one shim could cause the crane to operate smoother. The Pathfinder isnt a complicated machine. Light polishing with 400 or 600 wet/dry sandpaper or even some metal polish like Flitz or Wenol will go a long ways to making the old Pathfinder work like new again.

its a replacement cylinder. they did that to my 3" Bridgeport gun. I sent it in for timing issues (again) and they said they had to replace the cylinder and crane/yoke with a new style. now the finishes are different.

why they couldn't replace the hand and the cylinder star to get it timed right it beyond me, maybe they have parts assemblers and not true gunsmiths?

here are pix of the before they got it and after they got it.

before with the original polished blue cylinder and crane.

after with the replacement cylinder and crane.
