Charter Arms Pathfinder .22

Tommy,

I have three 3" Pathfinders, two in .22LR and one in .22WMR.

Considering the Pathfinders can be found for less than half the price of a S&W these days... one must ask: Are the S&Ws twice the gun? Mine aren't... :P

The Charter Arms guns have served me well over the years, and while I won't get rid of my S&W J frames in .22, I also won't be getting rid of the Pathfinders. :D

Several years back I swore that I was done with off brand revolvers and proceded to sell off what remained of my Taurus, Rossi and H&R's. I did good until one day last year I'm on a routine Sat AM gunshop stop and a guy walks in a trades a LNIB SS 3" CA .22 lr .pathfinder . Immediatly it got passed around the shop through all the "regulars". Several commented on how well made it was and how smooth the action was. I salivated and sweat until it was my turn. ( Be calm Dave, just repeat: "It's not a S&W , you don't want it. It's not a S&W .........")To late, It was love at first fondle. Fit and finish is above what I ever expected from a CA. It felt really nice in hand and ballanced perfectly. I even liked that awkward looking little pencil barrel. This is what a "kit gun" should be! ( "Ok, it's not a S&W but I NEED it!") I didn't dare let it out of my hands becasue I knew several others were thinking hard about taking it home too. I handed the owner $185 before anybody else could reach for their wallet. Once home, I found that it shoots pretty good for a 3" .22 ( 3" @ 50 without allot of testing). I found it to be a great pocket companion for walks in the woods. Not to big or two short a barrel . Just right. To be honest I collect S&W's and have a 4" 63 and a 2" 34. This gun shoots as accurately , has a smoother action and feels even better in hand. Heck of a value IMHO.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I stumbled onto one. ( hmmmm 22mag :-)

Enjoy yours!

If it's something that you like, then it's something worth having.

Tommy,

On any gunboard you are going to find loyalist, snobs, and those who buy something and deem it God's gift to mankind.

I've been very lucky, or Blessed, to have bought guns that everyone would poo-poo on and it's turned out to be the one that was made right.

If you saw it, handled it, and fell in love with it (and not the price) then it will do you well. Like any mechanical device, it could have it's flaws but like auto mechanics, we have gun smiths to smooth things out and make it work.

The older Charter Arms seem to work well for me. I have a Charter Arms .38 that I had the hammer bobbed (was used as a pocket pistol) and fired well and did okay for a snubbie revolver at medium range. That gun is the one that I gave to my Mom for her protection and I trust it. Unlike the .357, NIB, that I bought last year that binded on me and was told that it would "work itself out".... sorry, but I don't "work things out" with NIB guns with such a major problem :).

Ease your worries. It may not give you .000001" groups but it will be fun :).

Wayne
