Charter Arms Info

Hello to all,

Looking for info on an oldre Charter Arms 2" barrel Undercover .38.
This is an older model with the blue finish, exposed ejector, and full size rubber grips. Already purchased, couldn't pass it up. Got for $120, tax and all. It will mostly be for GP/ backup carry. Will see some time on camping trips and probably other family outings also. Just looking for some other experiences to find any kinks that may need to be ironed out. Checked it out and is functionally fine. Any help from you guys would be great. Shoot safe.

The older Charter Arms revolvers are quite good in my experience.

I own a number of them and the 3" Pathfinders (.22LR and .22WMR) are my favorites.

Great guns...i have a newer BullDog 44 special that i carry with me. Its super light weight and so far, has been bulletproof(pardon the pun)

Good to hear guys.

Thanks for all the info. Hope to hear more. I am a big S&W fan but sometimes get the feeling that the big three can't be the only three. Took a lot of heat at work over this gun. Being in the miiltary all my buds are lost forever in glocktown and see not application for revolvers, especially small ones. Can anyone tell me how acurate this little sucker might be? If it's even close to my M&P, I'll be very pleased.
Shoot Safe.

Dont expect too much in terms of accuracy...they werent designed as target guns by any means. They were designed to be lightweight and easliy conceiled...which i think they do a great job at. Best ive ever had my bulldog shoot was about 3" at 20 yards off of a rest...a little more offhand. Plenty enough for a self defence handgun!

That's about what I expected.

As long as it is "minute of bad guy" it will work for me. Just a GP utility gun, so super-precise accuracy is not a big requirement. Thanks for the info.

Enjoy your CA I get mine out now and then Its a great pocket pistol. I got a new set of rubber grips from CA for mine There thin enough you can pocket carry and 10 times better than the stock wood mine came with. I carry +P 158SWCHP and practice with 158SWC

I dug one up from a pile in a box. The thing was loose as a goose, rough in action, I couldn't use S&W J frame reloaders and it was not as good as a H&R for my taste. The funny thing is, I blamed all of this on the previous owners neglect. I jst got a look at a friends Charter Arms 2000 revolver. It is the same as the old Undercover. I think my friend and I had less than $200.00 into the pair though. 5 shots from a CA Undercover beats 2 shots from a derringer.

old charter

i've got an old charter "off duty" .38.....love it! its the only "small gun" i own.
locks up tight, even got a spare cyl & crane ass'y for it and with no mods that one lines up/locks up even better than the original!! Its smaller than the j-frame Smiths...slightly, which is nice. I shaved the upper portion of the left hand grip so I could use an HKS #36 speedloader (and reinstalled the medallion just for kicks!). There's a bit of a "bark" when you fire it and its not that accurate at all....think its mainly due to the skinny grips and of course the 2" bbl. I've even put a few rounds of +P through it just to see what, if any difference there was with recoil, etc. I can't see any benefit to +P in such a small gun but I'd have no compunction about carrying it with +P or using it in a "one off" situation. I've had this piece stripped right down to the last pin. In my opinion its well made, easy to work on and an all-round "good gun".

all i can say is....

all i can say (since i havent been able to fire the one i inherited) is certain parts are apparently impossible to find. I've gotten 4 out of the 5 mine neede, but have been unable to get the 1 i'm missing after 3 gunsmith's and 6 mo's of trying. from what i'm told (my dad has had one of thier .22's for 30 years,) is they are pretty nice and durable for the low price.

I've owned a Charter Undercover and a Bulldog in .44 spcl. that i bought nib back in the early '80's. Both were dependable guns. I gave them both to my dad when he retired in the mid '80's. Those guns have had about a zillion rounds put through them. He sold the Undercover awhile back and he doesn't shoot the Bulldog much anymore because of arthritis in his hands. Both guns are still as tight as the day i bought it.

I currently own a Charter 2000 Undercover, Offduty and a Bulldog.

Both the Undercover and the Offduty had a problem with light firingpin hits. Both functioned 100% with major name brand ammo but would have 1 or 2 light hits out of each cylinders full of the cheaper stuff. Both were fixed under warranty. Both function 100% with everything i've tried in them since they were repaired. I ran 100 rounds of 246 gr reloads and 100 rounds of Blazer 200 gr hp's through the Bulldog without any problems at all.

I would trust anyone of them for a defense gun.

I have had no problems with the Charter Arms .44 special
Bulldog. It's my carry machine on occassion.

Gosh, from the post count, I don't talk much!

I had that gun and really liked it. I should have never sold it.

It had a pretty good trigger pull and nice rubber grips. if I find one again for around $120.00 I will pick it up.
