I found one of these in a local shop and it was nice light weight, tiny sights but adjustable

Are they any good.
this one said CHARTER ARMS SOUTHPORT CONN.
on the barrel shroud.

it was the 4" target model with adjustable sights.
was 5 shot 44 spec
wood grips kinda between S&W square butt and round butt
matte blue
what are they worth and how do they hold up

Perfessr, I think you have the "Bulldog Tracker", which had adjustable sights. If so, it should have a 4" barrel. The original Bulldogs had 3" barrels and fixed sights. I had one of the latter, and a coupla the stainless models. The blue gun shot loose right away, with very mild handloads. I've heard others say the same. But... for a "Carry a lot, shoot a lilttle", I think they make dandy belt guns. You can buy (or make) some very effective shot loads for it, in that the .44 shot capsules hold lots more shot than do the .38's. They make good snake guns. With factory slugs, they'd do in a pinch to do for a feral or rabid dog, but I didn't think the accuracy potential (at least with ME behind the wheel) was such that I'd try to pick off a squirrel or anything. They will most definately do a coup de grace on downed big game that's still struggling.

A neat little big bore, but not a plinker. Just won't stand up to that much use, IMHO.

I had that exact gun many years ago and it was called a "Target Bulldog". It was a fun gun to shoot. I put quite a bit of factory .44 Special through it as it was before I started handloading and never noticed a problem. Accuracy was acceptable but then my eyesight was bunches better too. I had to sell it when I got into a tight money spot and I still regret it. One of the few guns I've had to sell that I would not if I could do it over. I don't recall how much I paid for it but I bought it new and used the check I got from Grand Jury duty in DeKalb County GA. How's that for irony?:D

I'd buy another one if I could find one.

Stay safe.

.357 Mag Bulldog wanted

I have ONE protype cherrywood gunfighter grip for a .357 Mag bulldog that I would like to find a home for to get it off the clutter on my desk. There were not enough of them made for me going into production for them.

I've got a 2.5" bull barrel Bulldog w/ pocket hammer. It is a dandy gun, does shoot loose. Agree that its a gun to be carried much and shot little.

You can buy (or make) some very effective shot loads for it, in that the .44 shot capsules hold lots more shot than do the .38's. They make good snake guns.

I did not have good luck with shotshells for my bulldog. Using the Speer capsules and recipe on the box, the shot rounds unseated and shattered the other shotshells still in the cylinder, from the recoil. I abandoned the shotshell venture for the Bulldog. Too little crimp and they would unseat, enough crimp to hold em in place and they would shatter and crack.

I'll never sell my Bulldog.;)

Sorry to go OT but, Fitz, its you that makes grips! couldn't remember...Got any grips for my .22lr Mini-revolver? I have a Freedom Arms version. Just one more finger on the bottom is what I'd like, or perhaps a thumb rest on left side to hook my thumb over so it wont jump up in my hand...???

Fitz Last Production 1975

My last production run was 1,000 Ebony Black color Duramite GF gunfighter grips that the Egyptian Govt insisted be on "J" frame pistols our Govt was selling them. I retired in 79 age 44, put some grips. Star machines, Saeco molds and stuff in storage and am selling some residue of stuff now.

We only produced grips for Smith, Colt, Ruger and High Standard since 1924. There were too many new what I felt were unnecessary pistols and calibers to suit me so I quit as Fitz has been a family business. I have grips for prewar Colts up to the 70's, and Palm Swell plate grips that Uncle B patented in 1924 and we produced for Ruger 22, Smith 41, 52 and HS 102-3-4 in cherry wood that are going over well with those shooters and they will be all gone soon. Hi Std Co. has offered to buy my remaining HS grips on Jim Spaceks HS List twice. Only had 24 and have 9 left now as I am selling wholesale to individuals not dealers. That list is happy with me.

Most aftermarket pistol grip designs of wood nowadays are takeoffs of our original designs at triple+ our prices.

My lists of remaining "Oldies But Goodies" are at my home site

Thanks for asking and have your shooting and reloading friends take a look. I will be on vacation RVing again in November.
