Charter Arms 9mm Bulldog

I recently, mistakingly purchased a 9mm Charter Arms Bulldog revolver ,5 shot. thinking it was 9mm parabelum?. Now I see where it uses special rimmed 9mm ammo, suposedly made by Federal??Does anyone know who still makes the special 9mm Federal type ammo for this?? Who carries it?

I used to shoot 9mm Federal in my 940. I had the ammo after trading off the Charter. Just a thought, but would regular 9mm with the clips work? Hmmm. I believe it was just 9mm auto rim.

No ammo maker of which I'm aware makes 9mm Federal ammo.

Moon clips won't work with the Charter 9mms either... unless yours has been modified over the years.

Sorry.

9mm rimmed ammo

The last box of 9mm rimmed ammo i
saw went for $75.00 on a auction
site.There's a couple of places
like cylinder and slide that
might be able to convert it to
use moon-clips but it would be
costly.Good luck.

Have you tried it with 9mm Para? If there is a properly located headspace stop in the chamber you could shoot 9mm P and pluck or poke the empties out. Pressure and ballistics of the 9mm Federal were the same as 9mm P so you would not be overloading the gun.

A good example of why you should know what you are buying and have the ammo situation figured out first.

Read this:9mm auto rim?
There is a Charter Arms Pit Bull 9 mm revolver advertised that requires no moon clips. It says that it takes a Federal 9mm rimmed cartridge strictly for revolvers...I've made some contacts with ammo sites and they haven't been much help.. I've had a strong interest in a 9mm revolver, scarce as they are, that doesn't require moon clips due to my arthritis. However, I don't load my own and don't want to purchase a gun without an ammo supplier...Georgia Arms supplied me with the scarce .45 auto rim for my 1917, but have not heard back from them on the 9mm...Any owners out there? Suggestions would be appreciated since I will possibly make an offer...

The cartridge is the 9mm Federal which was intened to be a rimmed version, the problem is that little ammunition and fewer guns were made. Today the ammo is quite rare. If you want something to shoot that most surely isn't it.

Location: Long Island, NY And IIRC, it was discovered that the high-pressure 9mm Federal round chambered easily in low-pressure .38 S&W caliber revolvers. Not a good thing , for obvious reasons.

I did a quick net search and that ammo is a collector's item as Charlie notes.

no doubt something could be made to fit by the dedicated and resourceful reloader, but that is not what you are after.

please excuse my ignorance, but moon clips would seem to be the easiest way to load a revolver if those moon-clip loaders/unloaders work as well as I have heard.

Greetings

The 9FA or 9mm Federal made one short production run in the 80's and then was discontinued.

The Charter Arms was the only firearm chambered for it and we have no plans to reintroduce it.

Sorry
