Looking at a .44 pug gun has great price tag and I need something lightweight and powerful to carry on my farm for wild hogs. Want to no the amount of recoil and noise level. I do not want a gun that will make me deaf. Some people have told me that the .44 is quietier than the .357 not sure. Just need some thoughts.

The 44 special is somewhat quieter than a 357, having no sonic crack, but its still LOUD!

The pugs have the nasty habit of shooting the barrel shroud loose from what I hear from quite a few different folks. No firsthand experiance there but its probably true!

My older 2.5" bull barrel Bulldog seems to be the desirable one to have from hearing lots of Bulldog owners comments. No, mine's not for sale.

Be careful. Quality isssues!

Bstroman,

2 years ago I bought a CA Bulldog Pug in .44 Sp. Did fine on my initial visit to the range, but it's had trigger problems lately, so I sold it. I'd stay away, but they do have a good warranty, FWIW. How big are the hogs you plan to shoot?
You might look at a used Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum and use .44 Sp cartridges in it. My two cents.Good luck.

Respectfully,
Larry C.

Cant say much about the pug, but the bull dog has been great for me

I have had one since charter arms came out with it in stanless.
My only comment is that 44 special is quieter than 375 the frequency seems lower and not as sharp.
But my main concern is a 44 sp for wild hogs.
I have taken several with a Marlin leveraction with 44 mag. and I just dont think that the 44 sp is enough mussle for a hog. Them things can be very hard to kill.
