Charter 2000 Rifles?

Anyone handled or own one of the new Charter 2000 (Charter Arms) rifles? The price is EXTREMELY interesting if the rifle isn't a complete POS.

MSRP of $345 for a stainless compensated .308 in a synthetic stock? Davidson's dealer near me (PHX) has it for $240 with the $15 off coupon, too!

April 2001 issue of Varmint Hunter story is provided on the Charter site, too:

Been looking for a C&R .308, (Spanish FR8) but if this is a decent rifle I'll have to snap one up. Any experience and/or insight would be appreciated.

I saw one at a show but didn't need another rifle at that time:( That particular sample seemed rough but the price is unbeatable. Let us know how it works out.

Charter purchased the Raptor Arms company last year.
I had a Raptor .270.
It should be the same rifle with minor changes.

Guns magazine did a very positive review of the Raptor in October 1999. That is what led me to buy my first hi-power bolt action.
(Just looked at their website. You can buy the article for $4.)

I was very pleased with the rifle.
The only reason that I sold it had to do more with pride than anything else.
When someone asked me about my rifle, I didn't want to start explaining every time they said "It's made by who?".

I shot around 3 boxes of shells through it.
It was accurate, and seemed well made.

If Charter hasn't messed with the original design too much, it should be a decent gun.

(With a digital camera costing $300, you would think Charter could post pictures instead of line art.)
