Charles Webley shotgun

Hello,

My father has a similar shotgun. It is a double barrel breech load, with ornate engravings. The engravings are "game scene" with a dog flushing out a bird from reeds. On one side, the bird looks like a duck, and on the other side the bird looks like a pheasant.

I removed the barrel and noticed additional markings and the number 13, also 3/4 with stamps that look like cross hammers.

If you found any information during your research, can you tell me? I will continue my search.

Thanks,
Ron

If you can't take ad post pics, describe every mark on the flats and water table. Proof marks will determine if this is English or a Belgian take-off

Hello Zippy, and thanks.

I will be visiting my dad again probably this wednesday. I'll take pictures of the shot gun and add them to this site.

So far, the information I've gathered isn't the greatest news. Most "London Fine Twist" barrels are the lowest grade Damascus type metal, and are known to come apart under loads higher than low powder. The shot gun could have been one of the cheaply made field guns that sold from $2.00 to $20.00 (at the time) to farmers.

Also, no real information about "Charles Webley", other than being a Rear-Admiral in the Royal Navy.
