Charles Daly 1911 Range Report & ?'s

I bought a new CD 1911 on Sat. Was 430.00. My wife and I went out to shoot it with a box of PMC hardball. It was all fun and games until round 7... I think, until i got a fail to feed. The nose of the bullet stuck straight into the feed ramp. I cleared it, and the gun shot o.k for about 20 rounds. Accuracy seemed o.k. at about 15 yards( was my first outing with this gun.) It was all fun and games until the gun failed to go into battery about every other round after that. The narrow extended section of barrel above the chamber was not sliding into the corresponding section of the slide. I also got two light primer strikes and one time the gun ejected the spent case and the live round under it. So is it a P.O.S. or is it breaking in? I completely stripped it, cleaned it, and lightly oiled it after I got back. Tonight I lapped the slide in for smoother function and did a light amateur fluff and buff. Will go shoot asap. I like the gun, but would like to have one I can count on. Nothing like the 100% reliability I got from the Smith or the Ruger I traded in on it( Both revolvers.) Can I make this work?
Dont want to wait months for the CD Warranty work. Would new Mags, springs, Etc. help out? Please help, up til now have been a revolver man. thanks.

Wait until you've fired it again to start pulling out your hair. A couple of Wilson magazines might help, but if you change too many things at once you won't know what's helping and what's hurting the guns performance.

Blades nailed it. Do one thing at a time, systematically that way you know what worked. I used to build "hot rod" car engines and would do one thing and run my cars. That way I knew exactly what each stage of progression did. Shoot well

Careful messing with your daly. If you have to send it back to kbi for warranty work and they can tell that you worked on it at all they will void your warranty. My friend had a DDA(cz clone) and we tweeked the slidestop spring because the one in it was too light and the slide would lock open with rounds in the mag. He sent it back to kbi because it still would do it once in awhile. They put in a new spring voided his warranty and sent it back. When he asked for an explaination they said he had put aftermarket parts in the gun(like there are any). Mark

Had a Daly and liked it but the mags that came with it were worthless.
The Shooting Stars I shoot in my other 45s worked fine in the Daly. When it was new and with the POC Daly mags it did some of the stuff you described. I polished the ramp and swapped the mags and all was smooth sailing afterward.

The only negative for the piece was that occassionally it would eject a case backward into my face hard enough to cut a perfect round circle mark on my forhead. It was also a tad likely to beat up the cases. Otherwise it was solid and a very good shooter.

Most of the time with the Daly 1911, you'll find that good magazines and a few hundred rounds will work wonders in getting your faith back.

Railroader is correct, if you think that you might need to send it back to KBI, don't modify anything external or internal to the pistol.

Any Cal. I agree with the other posts here.

I have a CD that I have not had any trouble with at all. I was lucky, mine worked even with the factory mags. I have heard that the most common problems with the CD is the mags and the extractor. I have heard that you can contact CD and they'll replace the mags. Try contacting them.

You might also cruise over to 1911forum.com, they have a lot of 1911 experts and smiths over there that are really helpful. They also have a section devoted to Charles Daly pistols.

If you're not concerned about the warranty, try a couple of mags first. If that doesn't fix it try polishing the feed ramp. Like blades said, one thing at a time. I'm not sure what you mean by fluff and buff though, you may have already voided the warranty.
