Charities

I posted this on another board, but I think it might be of interest here also.

During this Christmas Season when we consider what charities to donate to, I think we need to look at this from another angle. I think some of the best places to donate would be the NRA, (National Rifle Association), GOA, (Gun
Owners of America) and JFPO (Jews for the preservation of Firearms Ownership). Without these organizations and others like them, the Second Amendment will go down in flames, and the rest of the Bill Of Rights with it. Then there will be nowhere to donate anything to. Just remember how the people of the former Soviet Union had to live. How much do you think they had to donate when they could just about keep their heads above water, and churches were shut down so there were no more religious charities. Of course, the socialists among us will say that the government will take care of us from cradle to grave, if we consent to live like slaves. They won't use the word slaves, but the end result is the same.

The local Boy Scout camp, Camp Monatoak(sp) burned down this past summer. Along with the buildings, their .22 rifles were lost. A fair chunk of my donations this year are headed for them to buy new ones.(.22s). Sorry national, but the local kids need it this year.

Hal,

How many rifles were lost?

Have you contacted Marlin to see if they might donate some replacements? They might be interested in some GOOD publicity? (Especially if TFLers inundated them with requests for help?)
-----

If Marlin won't donate rifles perhaps they would at least give a discount of some kind.

If Marlin won't help out, perhaps a fund could be established for TFLers to contribute. I'd donate a few bucks.

I'd rather donate a few bucks to buy rifles for Boy Scouts than some other uses I was contemplating. Maybe some other TFLers feel the same. Maybe folks on other gun BBSs also would donate.

Shotgun,

Sorry! I'm not trying to steal your thread! I also am trying to figure out how much I can give to NRA, JPFO, SAF, GOA, etc.... It's the right thing to do.

Dennis,
I believe the Boy Scouts have contacted the gun mfgs. They set up at the local gun shows, so I imagine they get some attention from the dealers there also. Since I'm not part of the organization, I'm not in a position to ask anyone else to donate. I'm sure any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. I believe there are a couple of Boy Scout leaders here on TFL. If they wish to verify the story, and I would encourage them to do so and respond in this thread, here is the address:

Great Trail Council
Boy Scouts of America
P.O. Box 68
Akron Ohio 44309

Please be aware though that the donations are to rebuild the entire camp that was damaged by the fire, not just to furnish guns. Since this is a local Council, and the kids are from my community, I feel a certain civic obligation to help them out. Thanks for the thoughts, from all of the Akron, Ohio area. My main reason for the response was in the hope that the other Ohio people in here would spread the word. I agree, I feel that the importance of introducing these kids to responsiblity, through responsible firearm use is the highest want on my Christmas list for this year.
Here is another address, with phone number, for the Great Trail Council. The correct spelling is "Camp Manatoc" also.

Great Trail Council
1601 S Main St.
Akron, OH 44309-0068
Phone: 330-773-0415
