Changing lever on Ranch Hand

I just got a Rossi Ranch Hand and wanted to change out the big lever for a normal sized one. Since it's modeled after a Winchester 1982 would a lever for one of those work, or would I need one for a Ranch Hand? Also where can I find one, I've tried Brownells and Midway and haven't found one.

Last year I seriously considered buying a Ranch Hand to use as a backpacking gun. Like you, I wanted to switch out the oversized lever for the regular size one they use on their 1892 copy. I called Rossi and the woman I spoke with advised me that they were not interchangeable. I didn't research it any further so I don't know why they aren't and consequently didn't make the purchase. It had been my understanding that the Ranch Hand used the same action as their '92 but apparently that is not the case.

I believe the Rossi lady is wrong. AFAIK, except for the obvious shortening, they are the same guns. Check with Steve Young (aka Nate Kiowa Jones) at www.stevesgunz.com - the acknowlwdged Rossi 92 tune-smith, or the folks at M&M. www.mmgunsmithing.com I think ) - which is or at least was the Rossi warranty repair center. One of these may have a regular lever to sell or swap, but at the very least can advise.

While I can't speak to the interchangeability of levers between a Rossi Ranch Hand and a standard Rossi M92 carbine; I can tell you that I've interchanged the levers (Big Loop for standard & vice-versa) between several different standard Rossi M92's (and between .45's & .357's), w/o issue.
