changeing thread size? thread adaptor-adaptor?

Trying to get a 1/2 x32 threaded gizmo on a 1/2 x20 threaded pipe...

Is there such a device that can screw on to a 1/2 x20 threaded pipe/barrel/stick which is threaded 1/2 x32 on the other end, effectively changeing the 1/2x20 to a 1/2x32 threaded end?

Should I be looking in Home Depot? (only half-kidding)

thanks,

Me thinks you will need to make it or have someone make it. You will need a female 1/2 20 end and a mail 1/2 32 end. The 1/2 20 is a standerd NF therad, were as the 1/2 32 is an od ball. I take it this is not a true pipe thread? 1/2 pipe is 14 tpi, and pipe threads are tapered. If you are going to make it yourself I can tell you were to get a 1/2 X 32 tap.

You have a friend with a lathe and who can cut threads. Might be better to have in done on a lathe than by hand.

where to get 1/2 x32 stuff

I do know a guy who has a lathe, but needs a 1/2 x32 threaded nut or something to check his against.
I would really appreciate knowing where i can get the right nut or whatever to set him (and me) up!
Thanks Kurt IA!

Thanks everyone!

Maybe it is a dumb suggestion, but there is usually some way around those situations. It would help to know what the gadget is, how tight the joint has to be, what pressures are involved, etc.

The lathe would be the easist way to thread whatever your talking about threading. Not that it really pertains to this but I seem to remember reading once where it was illegal to thread the muzzle end of a barrel without the proper licenses.

What I am threading?

Kurt IA,
Thanks for the link. Such cool stuff, my dad and I could surf that sight all day. Mmmmm... tools (said like Homer Simpson)

Jim Keenan and others,
First off thanks for the help everyone. I know SQUAT about machining so all these terms are going into my "how to win at Trivial Pursuit" file. :)
Anyway, no matter of "Natzionale Sekuritie" here:
my cousin has a regular old 10/22, and has a screw-on thread adaptor for his unthreaded barrel with x20 threads. He wants to use some of FAC's attatchment/accessories/gizmos which are threaded x32 (or x28), and figures it would be cheaper and easier to adapt the adaptor, than to buy a threaded barrel.

Alternately, if someone would make him a screw-on adaptor in x32 for the 10/22, tha would work as well.

Pressures are 22LR, how tight is tight enough for 22LR (whatever that is)

Thanks again and love the info,
C-
