I picked up the Guns & Ammo 1911 issue from last month (I think) and it had an article with a detailed grip technique for auto pistol shooting. In spite of not shooting for at least a couple of months, I was able to reduce my groups by half using the grip shown in G&A. It put my off hand thumb on the slide, just above the slide release, which made me a little nervous, but I didn't hit the release once, nor did the slide seem to be affected, nor did my thumb have any trouble with the slide. Oddly (or it seemed odd to me) the strong side thumb goes over the off hand thumb. This caused the perceived recoil to be more pronounced on the web of my strong hand, but not overly so. I was able to get 3-4" groups at 7 yards with this hold. I know it isn't much to brag about, but the improvement over my groups before is what is noteworthy. Hopefully, more practice will get that 3-4 down to 1-2" groups. If you are wanting to improve your pistol shooting, I'd give the article a look.
