Change of address affecting gun purchase...

You're probably going to get asked if the address on the license is your current address. If you say no, the dealer is probably not going to want to complete the transaction.

Nj

I know in NJ, you can change your address online and get a sticker you attach to the back of your drivers license, which is accepted for a gun purchase. If this is legal in NJ, it must be legal in most if not all states.

you probably need to get a current drivers license with the new address. Most states probably have a law requiring you to report your change of address. I have seen an dealer turn down sales because the address on the license didn't match the current on the 4473.

My DL says I live in a P.O box. I've never been turned down. The onus for the correct info on the 4473 is placed on the purchaser, not the dealer. As long as the NICS check comes back clean it shouldn't matter if there is a discrepancy between the address on the DL and the 4473.

Besides, it's illegal to lie on the 4473 anyways.

I've bought probably 15 guns or so with my license that has my old address on it. One time I had to show my carry permit with my current address on it, but that was the only time it was even questioned. Unless your driver's license is for a different state, I don't see it being much of a problem.

Depends on the dealer, I have been standing at the counter and have seen several sales turned down at Gander Mountain. Once was due to a PO Box vs an actual physical address. The other was due to the person's address on the 4473 not matching the drivers liscense. Probably the Hqs SOP on gun sales

If you read the back of the 4473 it says the licensee is responsible for establishing the identity, place of residence, and the age of the buyer. I guess it just depends on how comfortable the FFL holder feels with the address.

If you read the back of the 4473, it says the licencee is responsible for establishing the identity, place of residence and age of buyer.

Typical deck stacking by the BATFEces JBTs.

Of course I agree that the dealer should be reasonably sure of age and identity of the buyer, but if the buyer presents an ID with an address discrepancy with correct info on the 4473, and all other info checks out during the NICS check, what's the FN problem?
