Hello all. I have recently begun contemplating a 7.62 Tok build using a Bulgarian 74 parts kit taking up space in my shop. After having built several variants in various calibers, I feel I have the knowledge AND experience to construct a conversion of this magnitude. To stem any questions that might arise from this, I will be welding the 74 bolt in the locked position and adding a support on the rear of the carrier. I will be replacing the gas piston with a solid piece of round stock in an attempt to add weight to the bolt and carrier. Hopefully that will allow the platform to better handle the hotter loads. I have several M1 Carbine mags (30 round blocked[TY Kommifornia!!]) with a sheet metal mag well fab from one of my previous builds to allow use of standard loads and subsonics. The next question I am sure is what will I use for the barrel. I recently acquired a GMR 7.62 AK blank from a cohort who owed me money. I could go the PPS43 route and sleeve the barrel, but I want to see how this turns out. I am looking for someone to chamber and profile the blank. None of the sissy gun shops in my area carry reamers for the Tok, and every one I have talked to refuse to work on an AK barrel out of fear of the gun-Nazi state gov't. Does anyone here know of a shop in SoCal willing to do this work? I am willing to travel anywhere from SD to LA. If not, are there any shops that might be recommended by members that I could ship the blank to? I have specific yet simpler profile specs for my barrel. Thank you.
