CETME--The Good, the Bad, The Ugly?

I'm Christmas shopping for the old man and a CETME caught my eye. He always wanted an HK G3 (and is still kicking himself for not buying one back in the '80s for about $700). How are these rifles? What is a decent price? Thanks.

One of the bad/uglies on these is the rear sight.
Depending on what day of the week or how many drinks were had at lunch, you may end up with one that has a rear sight that is not welded on straight.

Picked one up from Wholesale in NY. Very nice little gun. Recoil is negligible, accuracy fair all things considered (3" at 100 with iron sights). Did I mention recoil is nonexistent?

Cons? the finish is more than a little rough, and mounting that G3 scope mount requires grinding half the bloody stuff off. Okay, the muzzle brake is a little noisy, too. Yeah, getting straight sights may be something of a crapshoot.

I thought the last ones I saw were closer to $400, including shipping.

I'd buy one again if the mood struck me.

CETME

Just got a dealer friend of mine to order on from WG&A cost a total of 430.00 including tax and well worth it.

Just be prepared to send it back to Century Arms if its mesed up. I think half of the ones out their are next to impossible to disasemble and the sights are all mesed up. Even taking this into consideration I still think they are well worth the money. I personaly have never shot a 308 with so little recoil its lots of fun.

P.S. If you do buy one before you shoot it take it apart and clean the inside of the reciever with scotch bright to get rid of the over spray after you do this it should cycle corectly.
