Anyone own one, Guns and ammo sells one for $588. Will they last, considering the lowers are new as they claim, will they stand up to more shooting? They come with 1 20 round mag.M33

Its a little fugly but it's got where it counts.
The CETME is the Pappa of the HK G3. When HK was turned down by FN to produce the FAL, they took the CETME as a patern to develope there own rifle. The two look similar on the out side but the HK has they roller system that makes it a sweet rifle. Rollers are not required for a good .308 auto rifle as there are several others that are fantastic without them... the FAL, M14, etc... and the CETME. It's an older design, but they function very well.
Accuracy? About average but not as tight as a G3.

Since its an odd duck - not many around and many smiths don't work on them regularly - I'ld take the FAL clone. Cheap mags, cheap parts, easy to find... I saw an L1A1 NIB for only 400... it was rough as hell but take the money you saved and put that into some good smithing

Both the CETME models A-E and HK G3/9x series are delayed blowback, roller locked systems. They're probably best described as "cousins" as they were initially developed together, then diverged very near the project's completion. About the only parts that interchange are the magazine and the forearm. I've heard of people putting a HK-91/G3 complete gripframe on a CETME, with a little modification.

Here's a little website that goes over the different CETME variants (real ones, not clones):

Current CETME clones are built on the, formerly Special Weapons, cast stainless steel receiver and have a pretty good reputation. Some of the problems associated with the recent clones are misaligned sights and improperly modified gripframes that result in failures to eject (the ejector is in the gripframe). I wouldn't have a problem buying one of these clones.

If it has a stamped steel receiver, it's probably made by Hesse and there are more problems to consider.

Check out http://www.hk91.com under the "HK Compatibles" forum for more on these clones.
