CETME G3? Good, bad?

I saw a CETME (Century import) G3 clone in the shop. The gun looks like very high quality piece of hardware. Comes with 2 20rd and 1 5 rd mags. The price is $499. Does anyone have one of these? Are they good rifles? Can the quality be compared to HK?

It's no FAL, but it's a good gun at a fair price. You could probably get one for slightly less (Wholesale Guns in NY springs to mind-good folks, too) but if you have one in front of you, you may not want to roll the dice on a mail order one.

Not as pretty as the "real" HK, but they seem to shoot real well. I paid about that for mine, and feel pretty darned good about it after a trip to the range. You might see if you can try the trigger, though, as mine tests at about 20 lbs.

Triva I know,
The G3 is a clone of the Cemte not the other way around.
(In much the same way a L1A1 SLR could be decribed as a clone of the FN FAL)

They're really more like brothers than clones. They were jointly developed by former Mauser factory engineers and the group split shortly before the designs were finalized.

You have to watch the front sight for misalignment on those Century G3/CETME clones. If they're off, you can do little more than send it back to Century for a different rifle.

The alignment looks fine to me. I can not detect any cant on the fron sight post. The rifle is based on the stainless cast reciver made by Special Weapons. The internals are CETME. Steel looks good, but no spanish proofmarks. Trigger is creepy and about 12lb. Recoil spring is VERY strong. Dry cycling of the weapon is fine througout all 20 rounds. Borel is mirror bright. Fit and finish is very nice for a military weapon.

Cetme

I have a Cetme with the stainless receiver and love the rifle, the more I shoot it the better it gets. I had to send my rifle back to Century to have the sights fixed but it came back shooting dead on. I cant seem to shoot it with the open sights so I sighted it in at 100 yards with the 200 meter sight and I can shoot 1-2 inch groups at 100 yards with British Radway ammo.
Only problem with this rifle is that it takes soo long to clean, but it is well worth it.

I have a Century G3 clone. Mine shoots great with about a 12 pound trigger. Better than a lot I've felt. Mine has the regular steel receiver. Paid around $700 I think. Has mostly H&K internals, but aftermarket stock and forend. I does shoot great though. I love it and it's very accurate.

Herr Walther,

How have you determined that the internal sre HK? Are there any proof marks? I have assumed that the internals in my rifle are CEKME just because
the rifler is called CEKME model C, and cince the reciever is US made, something has got to be CEKME.

Have a stamped CETME. It shoots as well as the R1 FAL I usually shott it with. It also has noticably less recoil than the FAL. It really flings the mangled brass 25'-35' at a height sometimes reaching 12'. (Had taken it shooting a couple of weeks ago and had to move over to the far left bench not covered by the corrugated roof as some range members plopped down just to the right of me and I didn't want to pelt them with casings. The CETME was throwing them on the far side top of the roof which covered three benches.)

I have a CETME from SOG. They are selling them for only $400, with what appear to me to be all brand new parts. The reciever is a vacuum cast stainless steel unit. It is a real bitchin' rifle. Less recoil than an FAL. After each shot, the front sight is still on the paper. 2" groups at 80 yds with Malaysian ammo.
One thing though: lots of problems with the alignment of sights.
My rifle puts the groups about 6" to the right at 80 yds.
I contacted CIA and they have a one year warranty. I pay the shipping and they will align the sights. They should be doing this in the first place.

My Century G-3 clone gave me fits at first. But after a minor adjustment ( read weld ) to the reciever, it eats SA 308 like a fiend. Much more accurate than I expected. ( stays about .8" @ 100 yds iron sights standing with SA 308 ), but it does absolutely destroy and launch the brass. Best point. Mags have come down in price. InterORdinance is selling H&K stamped 20rd Aluminum for about 8.00 ea ( used ) and H&K stamped 20rd steel for about 10.00 ea. Much cheaper than a year ago....
All in all it is quickly replacing my 16" HB AR as my favorite to shoot.
