Cerakote vs. Powder coat

I'm confused on cerakote. A local shop said it's basically (expensive) paint with 'ceramic dust' added for scratch resistance. I asked if it was electrostatically applied like powdercoating and they didn't know.
I didn't see anything on wikipedia.

Is it scratch and dent resistant? heat resistant? Some other reason it's great.

Aka, anyone got a simple explanation of what cerakote is and if it's worth the extra $$'s?

cerakote is sprayed on and then baked to harden.

I've been pleased with Cerakote so far - it is holding up at least as well as Roguard and it resists heat discoloration well too.

Remove old finish, clean with a solvent like acetone, spray on like paint, bake it on. Its tough stuff but expensive and time consuming to apply.
