If you are going to refinish a gun, why not go with a seriously upgraded finish?
Nickel, hard chrome, nitriding (in order of durability) are worlds above any paint-even Cerakote.
I'm sure the painted finishes are more durable than bluing.

It was origins are as a commercial BBQ paint and for high performance headers....where you have NO movement or harmonics of moving parts to deal with.
They tried to market it to the firearms industry with a series of misrepresentations. It is ground up ceramic material in a spray on 2 part binder. It comes in air dry and heat activated hardner versions.
It does come in lots of pretty colors.
When is flakes and chips off....and it does....it is harder that the base firearm metal and cuts into and loostens slide to frame fit. In the case of bolt action rifles, it destroys the headspacing and bolt lock up cutting away metal.
By its natural properties, it provides NO lubrication.

I have a factory cerakoted P226. It is harder to scratch than some finishes, but certainly not impervious. You can see some wear in these photos. It's nice for a slightly more unusual and durable factory finish, but if I were going to send a pistol out for work I would rather spend the money on one of the finishes Bill mentioned.
