Century Int. Arms - 1911 45 feedback?

Does anyone have any feedback about the 1911 style 45s that Century International Arms is selling? The price is quite incredible, but I don't want to run into one of those "you get what you pay for" issues.

I have been looking for a mid-size 1911, and their Commodore would seem to fit the bill. And at the price they list, I could get 3 for the price of a Kimber (don't get me wrong, I like the Kimber and it is my first choice right now, but for the money....)

Anyway, if anyone has one or has shot one, could you please let me know what you found and what your feelings are?

Thanks!!!!

Scott

gsl, I don't have an ffl so I don't know what century charges for these 1911's, so how much are they? At least one of them has been safety tested for california so it would have to be reliable to pass. Mark

I have the "combat grade" model and so far its been flawless although i've only put 200 rounds of wolf 230 grain fmj through it.It has excellent fit and finish and nice sights. Its so much nicer of a shooter than my sistema, that the sistema is now sitting in a consignment rack at a local shop. The only thing i don't like is the plastic grips are too rough and i need to get a rubber finger groove set.Its extremely accurate and there were no problems with any part of the gun upon my receiving it.I picked mine up at the outrageous sale price of $259.00 plus $12.00 shipping and a $15.00 ffl fee for a grand total of $286.00 for a brand new nice quality 1911!

TropicalZ,

Maybe a dumb question, but how would you compare it to, say, the Kimber standard model? I know the Kimber has a beavertail grip safety, Chip McCormick internal parts (that is what I have been told) and a few other niceties. Kimber is also very good about repairing any problems with their guns.

As I mentioned before, I have been looking seriously at a Kimber, but for less than half the price..................

Thanks!!

I have never seen the internals of a Kimber,so i can't comment on their quality.I am sure they are decent guns, but appeal mostly to the gun snob's i so disdain.I will keep my S.A.M.1911,RAP 440,and FEG P9RZ and happily shoot them knowing that all three cost less than one cheap Kimber. The S.A.M. appears to be first rate on its internals and has a milled slide and investment cast 4140 steel frame. As for my Sistema and its "old world Colt quality",mine must have been made during the industrial revolution-i was not impressed!

TropicalZ,

What are you asking for you Systema? I have one and it was, as you say, kind of old world. I put a beavertail grip safety on it, with a Chip McCormick commander style hammer, a Chip McCormick lightweight trigger and 3 dot sights. It is a much better gun and many people have commented as such.

I have my C&R FFL and I am always looking for guns to tinker with and add to my collection. Let me know the condition and what you want for it.

Thanks.
