Centerfire Systems Galil

Hello, I was just eying the centerfire systems catolog and saw a Galil .223 for 649.00. It was a rather old catalog so I went to their website and they had the price dropped 100 dollars to 549.00. My question is: Has anyone had any experiences with centerfire systems? Are they a good company to deal with? And also what do you think of the Galil .223? I always heard that Israeli firearms are hard to beat. Any feedback would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

Well damn. I heard that they would accept AR mags. Maybe I should check my sources. I wonder how much galil mags cost anyways and where i could get some extra if I decide to go with the galil?

I can't tell you how many Century made Galil's I've seen at the front door of gunshows. They seem to be a total lemon. I really wanted one a few years ago but have heard nothing but negatives. I'd imagine Centerfire is selling the Century's. They seem to be the only ones putting Galils together. They call them "Golani's". Do a search here on TFL.

I think the Galil is a superb rifle, but it doesn't accept AR mags which are the standard for 223. If it did I would have probably bought one.
It all depends on your point of view I guess, the fact that it DOESN'T take AR magazines is a strong selling point for some.

Like most century products if you get a good one your set. If you get a bad one your screwed. I have a century Galil. I bought it used from a friend and its a great gun thru 800ish rounds it has yet to jam. Magazines are available and cheap if you buy the tapco polymer ones 14 bucks on CTD. The steels that arte 35 rounds are 20 bucks at Apexgunparts the orolite mags are expensive like 40 bucks but they are great i got 2 of them. They even make an adapter for the Galil magwell that will let you use AR magazines if you so choose. But the galil mags work great, its a fun rifle very accurate like 2 inch groups at 100yd with irons. With a scope maybe you could do better.

Define "screwed." Do you mean that I will likely get a lemon? Or maybe that their customer service reputation isn't what it should be? After reading your post about the magazines i did some digging and found the original galil steel magazines for 15$ here https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/75/products_id/920
Since they are galil wouldn't that make them better? I like the idea of getting original steel mags for that price for the gun. Might have to get 3 spares to go with the 1 that comes with the rifle. Anyone know a good place for .223 ammo that won't break my 'lil piggy bank?
Oh and PS this is where I was looking at the rifle to begin with http://centerfiresystems.com/RIFLE-GALIL.aspx

When it says .223 is that .223 REM or should i be looking at AR15 ammo? The 5.56 stuff?

:D

Well I did have high hopes for buying the Galil, but I have heard so much negative feedback about Century that I may as well try to get a lower end AR15. I will start a new thread about it.

Thanks Zombieslayer. I think so too. I went to the gunshop a little while ago and asked about lower end ARs and the nice (and pretty) lady there said that she could order me a S&W for the 650ish range. Think im gonna do that. Maybe when the zombies come we can link up for some true zombie slaying. :D
