Census Worker Attacks Resident

Scary thing about this scenario. Census Worker takes this approach with me (or anyone else on this board). CW takes step towards me and gets a good look at the unhappy end of a .45. I give myself about 30 min before I'm ventalated by a SWAT member or bleeding from the ears from a flash bang.

Actually, I always get s little suspicous when ever I see "excruciating pain" sounds like a law suit in progress.

LOL! I was a census worker this summer and believe me it's the census workers who get cussed out and threatened not the other way around. ....and she banged her arm? and hurt a nerve? LOL Haaaa haaaa haaa. I'm rolling on the ground laughing.... GEEE think she will try to file a lawsuit?? I wonder?

Woman Says Census Worker Bursts Into Her Home

She Is Injured By Incident

Naples
Thursday, July 27, 2000 - 12:05 AM ET

(WINK) A worker for the U.S. Census Bureau is accused of forcing his way into a Naples woman's home by bursting through her door and cursing at her. Now the woman is in bandages and there is an investigation.

It happened Tuesday at the College Park Apartments. Collier County Sheriff Deputies haven't arrested the man yet, but the victim, Kim Tovar, says he needs help before he hurts someone else.

"He pushed the door open (and said), 'You need to take the time fill this out. I'm tired of you (expletive) taxpayers that refuse to fill out these forms.'" That was the second day in a row and the second time that night the worker was at her apartment. And that's when she told him that she had filled out a census form at her old address.

"He goes, 'Why didn't you (expletive) tell me that? You should have just (expletive) told me that you stupid (expletive).' and he just went on and on cursing at me," Tovar told WINK News exclusively.

Tovar says that's when the gray-haired man starting waving his arms towards her. "He took a step towards me with his arm and that's when my arm hit the door frame." That caused nerve damage, bruised her left arm and left her in excruciating pain. Tovar told the worker to leave and the she called 911.

Tina Osceola of the Collier County Sheriff's Office said deputies were able to verify the suspect is indeed a U.S. Census Bureau employee. A Supervisor at the Naples office of the Census Bureau said she's assessing the situation and is concerned about the incident as well as the victim. She says the Census Bureau conducts FBI criminal background checks before hiring anyone.

Neither the Census Bureau or the Collier County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the worker. Deputies say they are investigating but say the suspect has not been cooperating.

Use of deadly force is hardly justified for this scenario and I gaurantee a jury would agree with me on that. If you shot him in the leg that'd be another thing altogether. That sort of attack is what stunguns and mace are for. Oh yeah, and baseball bats.

I twist the facts until they tell the truth

The lady could have been justified in shooting. The article doesn't say, but she might be a frail little elderly lady and not able to use a baseball bat. She might be afraid of electricity and lack the manual dexterity to use mace.
All of this law suit stuff is part of an anti gun plan to make us afraid to use a gun.
A person in fear of death or injury has a right to protect life and limb. To put it in perspective, if a person doesnt want to be shot, dont break into other peoples homes.
It is time we stood up for our rughts and refuse to be judged by "their" standards.

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

Dangus, good buddy, you do realize that shooting someone anywhere or even discharging a weapon in their vicinity constitutes deadly force, right? Shooting someone in the leg without justification is called attempted murder, just like shooting them in the chest. Deadly force only describes the degree of force, not the effect.

Resident was young woman in lates 20's (?). Supposedly census worker was a crazy old fart, probably a retired postal worker. I suspect woman might have gotten away with a shooting, depending on how looney he was acting.

Someone forcing their way into MY home shoving my wife about and cussing might be considered an immediate threat. If it was me at the door, it would not have happened. Force = Mass * Acceleration . High mass >> low acceleration. :)

Why don't they try these things with people who can stand up for themselves. Deadly force is not needed but if he entered my home like that there would have been force, just not deadly :).
One of them was in my neighborhood and while I was checking my mailbox he asked me where a certain address was. I pointed at it and he said "oh, I checked there and nobody was in". He then asked if I knew how many people lived there. I told him "frankly it's none of my business and definatly none of yours". He gave me his story about how important it is and yada yada, and then said I was on his list too. I told him that I already filled out the basic information and sent it in 2 months ago. As I turned to go into my house he followed and started to ask again. I immediatly turned and with a stern look told him "If I can't trust you to file my form properly why should I trust you at my door step". As he stood thinking of something to say I closed the door.

I'm sorry you census takers get so much abuse but you need to realize that a good portion of this country still knows that the census is strictly for collecting numbers...NOT PERSONAL INFORMATION!!

That lady should sue. An example needs to be made. You knock, you ask, if the answer is go away then guess what? You go away.

I probably would try to force his butt back out the door. If he then tried to do me harm, he'd get a few extra holes in his body. If the state of FL says I can use deadly force during a home invasion, that's what I'll do.
