Census Again! and Again! and Again!

So now I have been visited 3 times by my local census folks wanting the rest of the answers. Each time I politely have declined to answer any further than number of residents. Today the fellow came by again (#3) and we talked for a few moments. What he said in passing was interesting. Apparently they are required to come by 6 times, may be I heard him incorrectly. Also he stated they already had my name and phone number when I never at any point provided these. So question is if they obtained my name and phone number from a neighbor where does that stand legally? I refuse to answer anything beyond number of residents as it violates the constitutional intent of the census. I recall there being a court ruling , in texas I beleive, where there will be no fines or citations levied, anyone else recall that and maybe can provide a link?

MrGreen,

You heard right about 6 visits (combo of personal and phone calls).

I doubt if they got your name and phone number from a neighbor.

I would guess that they probably got your name from the tax office, and your number from the phone book or phone company.

Phone number is unlisted. Maybe got the name and phone number from landlord though. Two workers at different times, one I knew and one I did not. The second fellow knows my landlord so they may have provided name and phone number. Guess I've been ratted out! :) Ah well so I guess I'll see them two more times at least. I dont mind and the answer wont change. Fine or no fine, I've had enough of this great expirement they call "Socialism".

You lucky dog. I have not received a census form or a visit or a phone call. I am beginning to fear that I will be missed. Will my government miss me?
On a positive note the IRS found me just in time to mail my tax refunds, so maybe my government still cares about me.

I just read one of the most appalling blurbs concerning the census in the Shield, LEAA's magazine.

They cite an AP story that reports that Minnesota is paying inmates 1$ per head to fill out the forms so as a prison ombudsman put it: "The census is an important tool that will give corrections officials an opportunity to plan for more effective programming to meet the unique needs of groups in the prisons." WTF?
