Census 2000 questions?

I was told by a friend that in the upcoming census, our loving and caring government (sarcasm), asks several questions like how many windows and bathrooms etc... I was also told that they ask how many guns do you have in your house. I have never done this before, I am only 26 and wasn't involved when it came out 10 years ago. I thought the census is only to find out how many people live in a designated district.

My question is for the old timers, or anyone who knows the law and has done this before. What if I don't any a question, specifically the "How many guns?" question. I don't think it is any of their f*ckin business. Will I go to jail, or it will it just p*ss a lot of people off?

By law you are required to respond....I don't know of any cases prosecuted for failure to respond, though that is "their" option.

They will call you a few months later and try to conduct it over the phone if you didn't respond or left blanks.

You should be aware that any info you submit will be used for political agendas for the next 10 yrs....they are also counting illegals this time

First thing, there are too forms, the short form and the long form. I have read both, and don't remember any questions about gun ownership. Most people will receive the short form that only ask 5 or 6 questions per person, pertaining to age, race, gender, etc. The long form does ask a load of questions that I would consider "non of your freaking business", but only around 1 in 10 receive it. The Constitution only requires a once ever 10 year count of the people, in order to allocate House Seats, not all this other "bull" they are asking. From what I remember reading, the penalty for failure to answer is a $100 fine. If I get the long form, I may send it back blank, along with a $100 check as my protest, but then again, it may go right in the shredder.

I received mine in the mail last week. I have no idea what it ask because it went in the trash unopened. My privacy is worth a hundred bucks.

If the Constitutional authority for the Census is to enumerate the populace, what is the authority for other questions?

I agree with all of you, the census is all about congressional seats. They don't have a right to ask, In fact it should be illegal. It is just another thing in the constitution, like the 2nd ammendment, illegal taxes, censorship........ shall I go on? does the constitution mean anything anymore?

Guys,

I would say answer the pertainant questions on the census. Ignore the ones that are none of their business and not outlined by the Constitution.

Representative numbers change due to census numbers. This allows for fewer numbers of voters to place better people in office (assuming educated votes).

Also census records are used many times for genealogical (sp?) references.

I have my photocopy of my Census return right here.

My Census booklet is 21 pages long.
"Your privacy is protected by law (Title 13 of the United States Code), which also requires that you answer these question."

Somehow one sheet (which said there is a $500 fine for submitting incorrect information) got shredded.

PS. Not one question about firearms.

Have any of y'all seen the Census commercials on TV? All variations on a theme of "Be sure be counted so you can get your share of slop (tax dollars) at the feeding trough!" Bleah...

The Census is used to re- allocate both state and federal districts. This could help you if your current represenatives are anti.

More importantly, it is used to allocate federal funds for public services such as fire and police. In my case, my city is growing like a weed and we need all the money we can get.

I have no problem with how many live in my house or their ages. (School age children mean more education money). However, any question which I consider to be too personal will be left blank. If they don't like that, so what?

Here's the only question that is authorized by the constitution:
Counting yourself, how many people reside in your household?
Place this sheet in the envelope provided, and drop in the mail!
I too will not be answering any other questions other than this. I too will be paying (maybe) the 100 dollar fine.

Yes, make sure you answer all of those questions carefully so you can make sure you and your neighbors get your fair share of the booty ... ;)

This should be interesting. My wife is going to be doing some of the part-time census taking and no doubt follow-up. I am not inclined to be very informative so we'll see how this goes.

Also important that you don't answer any questions about race. If we do that, then we are allowing the government to allocate using that as a criteria. According to their double-sided coin, we are all the same, aren't we?

BTW, did the 20,000 Kosovo refugees go home, or are they going to go home after the elections? Has anyone heard?

I scoured the census website (haven't seen the form yet) and could not find any indication that the survey dealt with firearms.

I have heard, but cannot yet verify, that the $100 fine is PER QUESTION that is not answered, and the $500 dollar fine is PER QUESTION that is answered falsely.

Once again, I am still trying to verify this. If anyone has seen the form and can help, please do.

A side note: I have heard ad after ad on the radio encouraging Native Americans to participate in the census. The ads are very compelling (music & chanting), and go on about how they should honor past and future generations by standing up and being counted (by the same government that kicked their butts) , and how benefits could be denied to their people if they don't participate. Is this because they have protested the census? I swear I don't hear any other radio ads except the 3 or 4 geared to the Native Americans, and I listen to the radio all night while I work.

Input is appreciated, as always...thanks.

The only questions I'll answer are 1) how many people in the house, 2) the ages, 3) party affiliation of the adults.

That's it.

I'll pay no fines, and I'll accept no one knocking at my door. (Actually, I've thought about strapping on my sidearm in an open holster, and answering the door that way <wicked grin>. Think they'll be asking me anything...?)

Dennis,

I would hope to be knocking on your door to ask those questions, as I'll be packing, too! (howday pardner!) :D
