CCW what to choose

I have been carrying my glock 26 for several months now, however during the hot Texas summer it is wearing on my nerves. I am new to revolvers but have definitely decided I need one. I am looking for something small, probably 2 " barrel. I am looking at the Taurus Titanium 85 concealed hammer for pocket carry in a pocket holster. Also the S&W 640pd model looks good, but my fear is that the S&W will be too much money. Looking to stay at or around $400.00. Any other ideas or suggestions? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Hello. Why not shop for a clean, used .38 S&W J-frame? I've bought a couple like that over the years and they have worked just fine. Right now, most seem to favor automatics and I frequently see like new S&W snubs in the dealers' display cases.

Best.

Personally I prefer the snub S&W j frames. And like Stephen says a lot of excellent used j frames can be found for $400. I have no experience with Taurus' 85 models but they are considered one of the best products Taurus' makes and one of their best sellers.

People say the G26 is similar in size to j frames. I don't believe its true. While its overall length may be similar j frames are much easier to conceal and lighter (Airweight models). J frames are also safer and very handy to slip into your pocket in an emergency, esp their hammerless models. While all handguns should be safely carried in holsters whenever possible, its esp. true with standard trigger Glocks. Ruger Sp-101's are excellent snubs and can handle .357's well but I think they're much more substantial and heavier than j-frames.

I think if you want a real difference in weight and girth a j frame or the Taurus' should be your choices.

I prefer the aluminum S&W J-frames, like the 642. It will handle .38 +P and weighs about 16 oz -- a lot less than an SP101. It's also a lot cheaper than the titanium and scandium models.

I wouldn't bother with the scandium .357s. I think you'll find they have a whole lot of recoil. My 642 has just about as much recoil as I can handle.

If you really must have a .357, I'd suggest either a S&W model 60 or Ruger SP101. Anything lighter is just going to hurt way too much for my taste.

After having a J frame, 850 CIA and an SP....I kept the SP. I just like the gun better for me. For pocket carry Id find a nice clean used J" frame....nothing against Taurus. The CIA was the same size and weight as the SP and offered nothing more. A 640 or light weight version of it...fits in a pocket better than the smaller framed Taurus. The molded pocket holsters I had for the J and SP are wonderful...Hume holsters. The CIA fit the SP holster...not the J frame holster...just a tad bigger.
