CCW w/P7

Well, I'd carry a P7M13 in a shoulder holster all day at times...

Can you give a little more information of what type of work you do? Mostly sitting, standing, moving around, driving, etc? Normal day dress is also applicable.

Driving, in the office, and in the field (construction). Not a shirt and tie, but all is tucked. I have tried a horizontal shoulder holster, but it is quite visible from the back or when you reach or turn. I'm 6'2-230 and do not wear tight fitting shirts so I thought it would not be a problem, but it seems to be as co-workers notice.

I carry mine using an IWB Kytac Braveheart holster at about 3:30-4:30. It's comfortable at first, but after 8-12 hours of carrying it all day, it gets to be a tad annoying.

What works for me may not be for you, but here is my dress. Tucked in shirt, blade-tech iwb holster for P7M8, covered by a CCC vest. I use both the tropic vest for warm weather and the full weight vest all other times.:)

P7 is a heavy gun to carry. My only holster for my P7M13 is a Desantis Belt Scabbard. I usually wear it at 4 oclock.

tetchaje: I have a Milt Sparks Versa Max II on order for my Walther P99. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

I would make sure that you get a holster that protects the mag release. I had a P7/M13 when they first came out and had a hard time getting a holster for it. I think the one i had was a Desantis, IWB. It was a nice holster but the mag relase was exposed. Every time I got out of my truck, the mag would be laying on the seat . The only thing I can figgure was the seat bealt was hitting the release. It was pretty annoying. I later had a "pistol pocket" I forget who makes it, it had the adjustable loop and was also a IWB. I tried it as a crossdraw, and due to the P7's short barrel and all the weight in the grip, every time I bent forward, the pistol and holster would flip out of my pants and be hanging upsidedown in front of me. Not a cool thing to look down at the muzzle looking up at you. It worked ok as a behind the hip but still had a problem with the mag and the front seat with it too. The P7 is a great pistol, you just need to get the right holster for it.

Don't forget about a *quality* gun belt. Even though the P7 is flat, it is rather heavy, and even an excellent holster needs the support of a good gun belt.

Hi hedgehognh3;

The P7M8 is usually pretty easy to carry, IMNSHO, since it's flat and compact.

Your described body size should permit you to use a shoulder rig (assuming a proper cover garment) with excellent concealment. Perhaps you've not used the right rig? I favor Lou Alessi's Bodyguard rig, since Lou employs a pull-through snap in the triggerguard of the P7 for retention (no infernal thumb-break tab!), which makes for a very compact setup compared to everyone else. If you spend lots of time driving or otherwise sitting down, a shoulder rig is ideal. You might find something pertinent in this review of shoulder rigs in this regard:

As to belt holsters, both OWB and IWB, there are a few leathersmiths, notably Lou Alessi, Matt Del Fatti, and Ken Null, who do an excellent job with the P7 series, and one Kydex holstermaker, namely Gregg Garrett of Comp-Tac.

Because of the odd balance of the P7, it isn't very easy for a maker to get holster construction "just right" in a belt rig, but each of the above guys has it down.
On the other hand, there are several dozen makers (I've had examples of their work) who DON'T really know how to make a proper holster for the P7, but will be happy to try on your behalf for $. Stick with the above folks and you should be fine.

You'll note I haven't posted URLs for the above, but come over to Park Cities Tactical and do a search for "holsters" on Cult of the P7, and you'll find these plus "more than you ever wanted to know" about holsters for the P7 series. Best.

I carry my P7PSP in a versa max II and would never look back. Great way to carry it and easy to conceal. I had my P7PSP tefloned by Briley and it has not shown a bit of wear.

Hope it helps.
