I've posted previously regarding help with a new CCW - P7, P232 (owned), G19, and Sig 239 (SAS or normal). After much deliberation, the Council (myself :P) has decided on the Sig 239, an even balance of concealment and punch.

Now, I'm trying to decide which of the current selection to trade off/sell off to get the P239, as funding is short, and my search for a second CCW was spurred by my current selection not working...

One of the options is my Steyr M40A1, which I love the ergos of, but dislike both the bulky size (can't conceal), and the limited parts selection for (harder to get parts). Also, being a .40, I have a harder time being on-the-double accurate with it.

The other is my Sig P232, which I also love the feel/ergos of, but a Sig P239 is roughly the same size, and has more punch, although my P232 conceals with ANYTHING in my wardrobe, the P239 will need large-size shirts or an overshirt...suit-shirts and fitted-clothing it prints with.

Suggestions? I'd love to just BUY the P239, sure, but that's just one more pistol to take care of. Also, most of my other funding is going towards college, and a CZ 550 when/if my rifle sells. Plus, .40 ammo is more expensive than 9, as is .380.

I think you've made up your own mind.

I hope you're not buying new. Used is the way to go.

Well I initially planned to recommend you keep the Steyr since it's a little larger and therefore a little better for home-defense. But you didn't mention home-defense; you said CCW. So since that is the question, I'd say trade the Steyr. It's too bulky for you to carry anyway.

Home Defense will be part of the rifle purchase - a bit of the rifle's funds will be used for likely a Rem 870/Moss 500 "Cruiser" style (sans buttstock, 6-round tube, 18" barrel, pref. 20ga), something I can keep in the house as well as the camping gear.

The only hesitation with the Steyr is I do rather like it, it's unique, and gorgeous. It DOES conceal, provided I have at minimum a hoodie or thick overshirt on, but this isn't always an option, plus even with those, bending over prints the bottom of the backstrap and base of the handle, ala a G19/G23 (the reason I won't go for a G19 either. Otherwise by all respects, a G19 trumps the 239 in carry power).

I too prefer the flat slim gripped SiG 239 for ccw in 9mm +P. The fat brick butt heavy G19,G26 did not work out. I allso shoot and trust the Sig better than the cheaper made Glocks. Plus the grip does not dig into me and print on my outer garmet. Glocks are butt heavy and tend to pop out of the holster onto the floor! The SIg 239 lays snug in the holster being heavy foward weight. Your right the 239 carrys very well and shoots very accurate. The 9mm in enough power with good hp ammo and much better than 380,s 38spec. that most carry. I,m not sold on the bastard rd. the 40sw. I by-pass it by using 9mm-45acp only in full size or compact auto,s. Is 9-9mm rds enough you bet, most only use 7rd mags in there 1911. A far as a cal. war 9mm-40-45 all work if you do.
