CCW Permits and residency

If you get a CCW permit in one state and move to another state that has reciprocity, do you have to get a concealed carry permit from the new state or can you use the old CCW permit in the new state until it expires?

I am not sure about a correct answer but I think that;
If you were to move to a new state your old permit would not be valid. You would need to apply for a new permit for the state that you just moved to.

It depends on the state. Check the local state regulation on this and do not depend on internet hearsay. The prison time avoided may be your own!

Drivers License

In most states they work just like a drivers license... when you move you need to have your drivers license changed to the new state just like the CCW. In Texas, Florida and other states that allow "out of State CCW" holders you could keep them (if the State you move to recognizes out of state CCW and you actually have the out of state CCW). Example: I live in Texas and have a Texas CCW. I am considering getting a Florida CCW (out of State) and if I move to any of the 30 some states recognizing Florida I am OK. However, my TEXAS CCW would need to be changed to out of State if I leave Texas...

As the other gentleman stated check the State you are moving to... I do not know any that let you keep the CCW (this includes the State you are leaving unless you change your CCW to "out of State." Check out the link below.

You have to be more specific. What state to and from?
If you have a Texas or Fla permit, for instance, and moved to Missouri, you'd be ok as long as you notified Fla or TX that you were an out-of-state holder instead of an in-state one. However, if you moved from Missouri to Fla or TX, you would not be valid, because Missouri will not issue to out of state residents. So as soon as you become a legal resident of another state, your Missouir ccw is invalid.
I hope that's confusing for you....

Where is your permit from, where do you live now, where are you moving to?

In Florida, for example:
790.015 Nonresidents who are United States citizens and hold a concealed weapons license in another state; reciprocity.--

(1) Notwithstanding s. 790.01, a resident of the United States who is a nonresident of Florida may carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm while in this state if the nonresident:

(a) Is 21 years of age or older; and

(b) Has in his or her immediate possession a valid license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm issued to the nonresident in his or her state of residence.

(2) A nonresident is subject to the same laws and restrictions with respect to carrying a concealed weapon or concealed firearm as a resident of Florida who is so licensed.

(3) If the resident of another state who is the holder of a valid license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm issued in another state establishes legal residence in this state by registering to vote, or making a statement of domicile pursuant to s. 222.17, or filing for homestead tax exemption on property in this state, the license shall remain in effect for 90 days following the date on which the holder of the license establishes legal state residence. This section applies only to nonresident concealed weapon or concealed firearm licenseholders from states that honor Florida concealed weapon or concealed firearm licenses.
