As we do not currently have either here, I am in violation whenever I take precautions to preserve my families safety. It has been suggested that I get involved with the political reform to change this, and it is a good one.
I hold that unless your are part of the solution, your are part of the problem. That would apply to me as well. So along with the poll are these two questions. Which do you think prevailing winds would go with. CCW, or OC?
Does Open Carry allow for CCW?
Personally I like the idea of open carry to eliminate any doubt. I don't think that the intimidation factor would allow the majority to vote for this though.

Any thoughts would be helpful

Both. Many states (like OR) allow for open carry except in places like schools, bars, etc and allow permitted CCW everywhere but airports, courthouses and prisons.

I wouldn't live in KS under those conditions

My state has both, with the usual limitations like bars. A vehicle is considered an extension of your home. Legal, loaded or not, concealed or not, no license required. NM.

CCW is the tactically smarter way to go. At least in my area where a gun openly displayed on your hip for the stealing is worth more than the pocket change they'd ordinarily kill you for.

Or, you could carry openly to make a statement about your constitutional rights....I prefer the former.

Bravo ... stay there and fight it out, brutha! That's what we really need are people to get involved.

Although I'm all for legal open carry, I'm really opposed to doing it. There are people always ready to get politically active on the other side, too -- and so many feel threatened and moved to action just by the sight of a gun.

Not that I really care what they think ... but I just think the practicality of CCW is so much better than open carry that I would fight for it first.

In general, open carry makes sense when dressed casually or in the field. Concealed carry makes sense with formal dress.

I mainly like the ability to OC due to a possible 'flash' of my holster or handle when reaching up to get something on a shelf. In some states, that would be illegal and the last thing I need is some freaked-out housewife screaming I've got "a gun".

We have both in Kentucky.

In general, open carry makes sense when dressed casually or in the field. Concealed carry makes sense with formal dress.

I like that, good way to put it. I guess I've been casual so far, as I only open carry.

I realy like Kentucky's view as well. Open carry is a free, constitutional right for everybody with CC being an inexpensive privilege.

We should ALL fight stupid laws that strip away our rights to self protection, good job.

The purpose of CCW is personal safety. One is safer under the umbrella of an undisclosed threat. Knowledge is when you know you don't know. Criminals are motivated by fear of the unknown. If they're drunk, stoned, crazy or all 3, it doesn't matter how you carry.

Open carry may cause unease amongst the sheeple. Why would you want to cause unrest amongst the eloi?

Here is a draft I am considering sending to the leading legislator in our state that is pro CCW. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

"(elected official),
Esteemed Sir
Hello, my name is (of course me). I live, and work in Wichita, Kansas. I currently work in the security field, and while I am not a LEO, often times it is us, in this capacity, that are first responders. I see the crime in the places I patrol, and the attitudes of the criminals living in our community. Currently the Supreme Court of the United States has held that a LEO community cannot be held responsible for personal safety. This, by definition, leaves the burden of the task to me, to provide safety for my family. In order to be on equal ground as the criminals in our community, I am forced to become a criminal myself under Kansas statue.

This is unacceptable. I should not have to lock my family away in a house or be afraid to go certain places, or at certain times simply because the current statue does not allow me the resources to ensure my families safety.

As is current, I hold the state in violation of my civil rights to protect my family, since the police cannot. I would also be compelled to hold the state in accomplice of any such, defendable harm that would occur to them as a result of not allowing me to do what the government cannot. Further I hold that the state has violated my freedom to travel, and to come and go in peace, as we please, as US citizens. We, the people, should not have to live in fear of those that will not obey legislation, and yet we are held captive to the criminals themselves. It is appalling that a state would allow this to continue.

Sir, while I am not in your district, I do believe that you are the best chance of starting change on the CCW law of Kansas that will be broached in the near future. I would like to know when this issue will arise again. Further I would like to know how it is that I may help to ensure that regardless of whom the current Governeour is that this will not be allowed to be vetoed again.

I would be more than happy to provide statistics, results, and any other information on the successes of the other 46 states that have recognized this problem, and addressed the issue.

Return us to the law abiding citizens that we wish only to be. Free to defend our families, our homes, ourselves. I beseech you sir, help us return from the criminal status thrust upon us by lack of legislative vision, and the moral imperative.

It is time once again that our government began to recognize "we the people" (those who abide by the laws, and those who elect officials to represent us), and stop concerning themselves more with the criminals that would prey upon us.

In closing I would like to say thank you for your work on this matter, and your service to our state. I await your response, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

In your service,
Regards;

Well, I put in my vote for CCW for easier to pass. Open carry would probably cause Dems to conjure up images of people walking around with sixguns on thier hips like old west gunfighters.

That being said, I like open carry because I fancy the idea of walking around with a sixgun on my hip like an old west gunfighter. ;) However, I choose to carry concealed (both are legal here in NH) for practical reasons.

The US Oceans Policy:

Second, the United States will exercise and assert its navigation and overflight rights and freedoms on a worldwide basis in a manner that is consistent with the balance of interests reflected in the convention.
It's been suggested that where there is a right and freedom to open carry, gun owners should exercise and assert it lest it wither away.

I am encouraged by states like Vermont and now Alaska. A legal carry climate as found in these two states should be the goal, and subject of unrelenting assault, by every "gun lobby" in the nation in their respective states.

FACTS & FAQ's - Concealed Weapons & Weapons Transportation
Concealed Weapons

The state of Kansas does not issue permits to carry concealed weapons to its citizens. Only federal law enforcement officers, law enforcement officers certified by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission (KLETC) and Private Investigators licensed by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) may carry concealed weapons in public.

In addition, Kansas does not recognize concealed weapons permits issued by other states or political subdivisions.

Weapons Transportation

Kansas Law does not prohibit the "plain view" transportation of weapons in passenger vehicles. However, certain jurisdictions within our state have restrictions in this regard. Some cities and / or counties require weapons to be unloaded. Others prohibit transportation of weapons inside the passenger compartment. In order to comply with local laws pertaining to weapons transportation, you will need to contact law enforcement officials in the area(s) you plan to travel.

Does anyone think that we will ever get a federal law to govern CCW, or OP. One that restricts the rights of states, counties, and municipalities from infringing upon these rights?
