CCW in Hospitals, as an employee...

Hi all,
I work in a hospital (RN) and am planning on getting my CCW.
(That is, I will try, as this is Minnesota.)

Anyway, with the permit, I will be legal, but I want to protect my job too.

So, how can I find out for sure whether or not CCW is prohibited on the grounds?

I don't want to just go and ask some administrator, because I believe I will get an automatic "absolutely not!!!" as a knee-jerk answer to my question.

But, I want something in writing, or at least documented somewhere, that CCW is not prohibited (or better yet: that it is okay).

I lift and bend alot, and there is the small chance that I would be "made" at some future time.
At that time, I would want to point to the proof I have that I am not in violation of some policy that would get me fired immediately.

The area in which I work is fairly secure....
Well, actually, there is nothing to prevent someone evil coming into the area, but nothing has ever happened in the hospital's history.

So, my workplace is vulnerable, but not considered high-risk.

The other big thing is that I work nights, walking to and from the parking ramp in darkness.
The ramp is not patrolled (according to the ramp supervisor).

As a male, I am probably at lower risk for attack, but I do think I am at some risk.

Bottom line: I want to carry, but also want to keep my job.

Thanks for any advice, tips, comments!
:)

Good luck on the CCW in MN.I tried back there and couldn't get one.ONly bussiness men in my home town.Wouldn't you know it,one got drunk and shot a bar up.
Does the hospital have a book containing all rules and regs for the place? If not banned and if you can get the CCW I would go ahead and carry. You can allways point to the book and say hey its not banned.
Good luck

ever hear of the JCAHO. it regulates and certifies hospitals for compliance to a voluntary code of practice standards. one JCAHO rule is that the premises be posted against the carrying of weapons except by security or LEO's in performance of thier duties. your policy and procedure book located in your department should spell out a code of conduct for you and other hospital employees concerning weapons, smoking ect. just ask to see it on the premise of looking up something on the dress code or something. i would be VERY VERY suprised if they do not prohibit, in writting the possesion of any weapon on hospital grounds. also most hospitals are considered schools as there are residents and intern doctors and student allied health proffesionals on the grounds. and federal and state laws govern school zones.
