I was at a local bar/restaurant the other night. Some friends of mine who work there and know I was in law enforcement for a little while came up to me and aked if I had a minute. Of course, I answer. They pull me aside and show me a backpack. I look inside and along with a wallet, some gym clothes, there was a holstered Sig complete with the officer's badge who had left the backpack behind! I couldn't believe it. They asked what I thought I should do. I called around and descretely found a means of contacting the officer. He was MOST appreciative that I went through informal channels... It sounds so simple- but NEVER put down the bag/purse/pack that contains your sidearm. And if you feel compelled to break that rule- NEVER leave it behind!!!
The officer in question was not intoxicated, he had only stopped in to say hello to some friends, by the way.
