im looking for a back up revolver, but i cant decide if a want a DAO snubby, which i could carry in a holster or pocket, or a 4" barrel SA/DA which i could do target plicking and ccw in back holster

They are two very different guns. the snubbies arent much fun to shoot. I had my Model 38 at the range today to work out with it. It was good and I felt better for it since it is my "always" gun, but I wouldnt want to shoot targets with it.
It will jsut depend on your circumstances. Do you want a gun that is easy to carry and conceal with a very good track record of stopping? Then you want a snubby. Do you want a more competition type gun that is fun to shoot as you master it, that will carry OK but is bulkier and harder to conceal? Then you want a 4". You can compromise and get a 3", which will give you either the best of both worlds or the worst, depending on whom you ask.

I think the 4" is the best overall barrel length (have 2 S&W 4"). Even a 4" is no target gun though... for that you need a 6".

I don't think there is any "right" answer to this. Bottom line is, you need to be happy with your purchase, and difference people place different weights on various capabilities. No denying the 2" carries better than the 4", but no denying the 4" shoots better than the 2".

I don't currently carry ccw, but if I was concerned much about concealment and carry comfort, I'd actually get a slim semiauto, like a Glock 9mm. Likewise, some people there think a full size 1911 is fine for carry, others think a Glock compact is still too big... personal taste! ;-)

ya then i need a snubby....my first gun is gonna be a Kimber custom stainless TLE target II 9mm....so thats gonna be my primary weapon....its a pretty good combo...targeting and tatical law gun

question answered

Yep, that was what I was going to ask...what is the primary gun...
short snubby seems to be the answer... you've already got a hunk of steel to carry around with the Kimber (I think) so go with lighter next.
