Caution: This "suck-up" to Kofi Annan may make you puke

Despite what people may think, I admire objective, probing journalism.

IMNSHO, this can't possible be much further away from that ideal.

It is a sucking, brown-nosing, sycophantic, whitewash of an article by Time magazine.

Whether or not Kofi Annan is a man deserving of such gushing praise is beside the point (personally, I don't tink he is); what really pi$$es me off is the so-called journalism (sic).

It's too long to print here, but here's the head:

Drawing on his days in the classrooms of M.I.T. and on the playing fields of Ghana, the U.N. leader pursues a moral vision for enforcing world peace
BY JOSHUA COOPER RAMO[/quote]

Is it just me, or is the very concept of enforcing world peace an oxymoron??

Sitting here it work with the duty bored to tears. (It's basically a glorified phone watch at my present command.) So, I decided to play with the dictionary and came up with the following for "enforcing peace."

"effecting by force a state of tranquillity"

Yep, makes sense to me...

------------------
"...and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."
Luke 22:36
"An armed society is a polite society."
Robert Heinlein
"Power corrupts. Absolute power - is kinda cool!"
Fred Reed

And the Spanish Inquisition was for the "good of the people"

Sam I am, grn egs n packin

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."

Deja Vu! When I was younger, I read a number of science fiction novels by Keith Laumer, about a maverick Earth diplomat named Retief. At that time in the distant future, Earth no longer had a military, it had PEACE ENFORCERS! And the diplomatic corps had various departments whose initials spelled out words like MUDDLE, MEDDLE, and SUCKER.

Maybe I'll look around again for those books, and compare the antics of those future diplomats with today's newspapers.

Yes Bruce, good posting, but guilt over US non-involvement in Ruanda and E.Timor does tell on ANY conscience after a bit.

Even Time Magazine !

I note that the Aussie crimes over the conniving of the 1975 Timor invasion by Indonesia is now out in the open at last, so perhaps our press will follow with similar UN accolades?

If we shooting sportspersons don't hang together... we will all hang separately !
Never knock another's different shooting interest or discipline...REMEMBER we are all but leaves on the same tree of freedom.

Cool name bunny.

Bruce my friend have no fear there really aint no UN or NWO its just a form of psychosis that some of us that hear these things have. I keep getting reasured that there are no global power plays. We are all just crazy nobody actually says these things.

Forced Peace, yeah I like the sound of that.It reminds me of a quote I once read.

"When love becomes a command,
Hatred can become a pleasure."

Kofi can pound sand for all I care.
